Independent Investigation Confirms Sanders Campaign Told the Truth
April 29, 2016
BURLINGTON, Vt. Four months ago, in an impulsive overreaction and at a critical point in the campaign just weeks before the closest Iowa caucus results in history, the DNC shut down the Sanders campaigns access to its own voter file data, only restoring access after the campaign filed a lawsuit in Federal court.
Now, four months later, an independent investigation of the firewall failures in the DNCs shared voter file database has definitively confirmed that the original claims by the DNC and the Clinton campaign were wholly inaccurate the Sanders campaign never stole any voter file data; the Sanders campaign never exported any unauthorized voter file data; and the Sanders campaign certainly never had access to the Clinton campaigns strategic road map.
In fact, the independent investigation has confirmed what the Sanders campaign said from the start:
The DNCs security failures allowed four Sanders campaign staffers three junior-level staffers led by a manager who had been hired at the recommendation of the DNC and who was immediately terminated after the incident to have extremely short-lived access for one hour to Hillary for Americas scoring models, but not to any of Hillary for Americas proprietary voter data.
No one else in the Sanders campaign, outside these four staffers, accessed the Hillary for Americas scoring models or had knowledge that the activity was taking place until well after the incident was over.
With one exception, all unauthorized access took place within the DNCs own system. While there is evidence that the terminated staffer may have exported a summary data table, the independent investigation of Sanders campaign computers could not locate that file and no one in the Sanders campaign has ever seen that file.
With the investigation behind us, the campaign has withdrawn its lawsuit against the DNC today but continues to implore the DNC to address the systemic instability that remains in its voter file system. It is imperative that the DNC make it a top priority to prevent future data security failures in the voter file system, failures that only serve as unnecessary distractions to the democratic process.
Bernie Sanders Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver said We are gratified by the results of this independent investigation.

(8,700 posts)The DNC who's chairperson was the national co-chair of HRC's 2008 campaign for president.
No reason to suggest she would, in any way, ever be partisan in her choices despite that fact.
Just like, despite claiming to be against Citizens United and unlimited dark money, HRC has received millions of dollars in this same type of funding but states, despite being against it and how corrupt and destructive it is to our political system (her words), it would in no way compromise or color her decisions in any manner.

Sanders campaign withdraws lawsuit against DNC
Nothing in that story contradicts what they said.
Nothing, despite the ad nauseam analysis that went on here for months and the flaming accusations of impropriety, all of it was false. Even the one thing the independent report said was exported, there is no actual proof, it is only only suspected by some of the analysis. They cannot find any actual corroborating evidence that it existed outside of the DNC network.

"But in a separate statement, the DNC said that the independent investigation by CrowdStrike agreed upon by the Sanders campaign and the DNC identified evidence of unauthorized access via four user accounts from the Bernie 2016 campaign. All unauthorized access occurred during a one-hour period from 10:41 to 11:42 EST on December 16, 2015.
During that time, the four users conducted 25 searches using proprietary Hillary for America score data across 11 states. All of the results of these searches were saved within the VoteBuilder system, with the exception of one instance where a user exported a statistical summary of a search using HFA scoring in New Hampshire, the DNC statement said. CrowdStrike found no evidence of unauthorized access by the Hillary for America or OMalley for President campaigns. Today, the Sanders campaign also voluntarily dismissed the breach of contract action pending against the DNC.

(2,145 posts)Bernie Sanders drops lawsuit against DNC
The campaign of Bernie Sanders has dropped a lawsuit it filed in December against the Democratic National Committee, after the national party cut off its access to crucial voter data.
The move came Friday as the DNC released its independent investigation of the breach , which confirmed much of what was already known about the event. During the breach, Sanders staffers accessed proprietary voter data owned by the campaign of front-runner Hillary Clinton. They conducted 25 searches over an hour.

After an independent investigation into the data breach before the Iowa caucuses concluded that the Sanders campaign told the truth, Bernie Sanders has withdrawn his lawsuit against the DNC.

(2,145 posts)It was a bump in the road for everybody. Just like the claim that her surrogates made about disqualifying Bernie then blaming him for in turn for questioning her qualifications. Which he didn't because he was responding to her surrogates' claim and he preceded it by saying "IF .... Then....."
He was cleared because he was honest and he took care of it. Everything known from day 1 turned out to be the whole affair. The DNC promoted the incident out of proportion and tried to use it against Bernie.
Thinking about this . . . I'm realizing Weaver and Devine are very, very smart. It may have been more a tactic to put the DNC on notice that Bernie is playing hardball and will not allow them (the DNC) to trivialize his campaign. That's a pretty good tactic to keep DWS and the DNC honest.

(9,527 posts)I still don't think this was a big deal, but it's kind of hard to claim that it was just an accident. But hopefully it will at least put to rest the still repeated bullshit about Clinton stealing Sanders' data and sending people emails or mailed flyers.
