Related: About this forumBernie Sanders Blasts Hillary Clinton for Seeking Funds from Bush Donors
Bernie Sanders has just called out Hillary Clinton for attempting to solicit donations from Republican donors for her presidential campaign, issuing a dire warning that his supporters will not tolerate these questionable fundraising tactics.
Those are the kinds of things that make not only my supporters, but millions of Americans, nervous, Sanders said today on PBS NewsHour.
<snip>
By the way, as I understand it, [Clinton] is now reaching out to Jeb Bushs fundraisers in order to raise money from them, said Sanders. And that really casts a doubt on the parts of millions of Americans. Are you really going to stand up for the middle and working class when youre collecting millions from Jeb Bush supporters?
After portraying herself campaign in the primaries as a progressive crusader, Clinton is now trying to appear more conservative to appeal to Republicans who are disgusted by Trumps radical rhetoric. However, this inconsistency may alienate both groups.
GOP donor Gregory Slayton agrees with Sanders:
Theres nothing that will hurt her more with the Bernie Sanders/Bill De Blasio/Elizabeth Warren wing of the party than aligning herself with Wall Street.

Hillary reaching out to Jeb supporters is a brilliant tactical move. Even if she doesn't get a single $ from them, she is sending a signal about how confident she is in her ensuing victory and in her ability to reach out to voters across the aisle. It is a calculated dissing of both Trump and the Rs in general, who typically fall in line behind their nominee, but who are in open revolt this year. It's telling Rs they have a place to cast their vote if they're of the No Trump mindset. Who more represents the R establishment than Jeb? She's hitting the Rs and the RNC right in their guts.
Sanders' approach to and understanding of politics is so naive that he can't even imagine what Hillary is doing. He sees it only through his Johnny One Note "them against us" prism that has driven his campaign from Day One. He actually believes that Rs donating to Hillary would influence her to change her very progressive platform.
Just another Sanders head shaker. Slow on the uptake and blinded by a worldview stuck in the myopia of small-state politics and an outdated political outlook. If you weren't convinced before that Sanders would have been a disaster as the D nominee, look no further than this latest example of his linear thinking.

(13,889 posts)It appears that she's running against a quasi-fascist platform led by Donald Freaking Trump. I am just fine with her taking money from the Koch brothers and who all else in order to defeat an incipient fascist movement. Politics has always made strange bedfellows, like the US & UK teaming up with the Stalinist USSR to defeat Nazi Germany. It does not follow that FDR and Churchhill were fans of Stalin.

(12,471 posts)for her to move to the right, after going to the left to nearly gain the nomination. I wonder how far to the right she will move if she gets nominated? How many of her promises that she made to progressives will be broken in order to get RepubliCONs to vote for her?
Just another third way kowtowing to the Right as usual, if you ask me.

(2,471 posts)What are their claims? Most of what they claim is pretty good, it's the reality of what they actually do that sucks.
Pro-family that's a claimed republican value. I also am pro-family. The difference is that the republicans have done what they could to weaken the family. But I share their claimed value. I bet Clinton "and" Sanders do as well.
Being pro-life is a claimed republican value as well. I'm pro-life and I bet Sanders and Clinton are as well. But the actions of the republicans are decidedly anti-life and cause more abortions than they stop while increasing misery. By helping women to have access to reproductive health care, including abortion, democrats are effectively more pro-life.
Religious liberty heck I'm an atheist and I support religious liberty. But once again the claimed value runs right into the actions of republicans. Clinton and Sanders have both said their for religius freedom.
So saying Clinton appeals to republican values is a meaningless statement. There are three republican values that both Sanders and Clinton agree on.

(8,311 posts).... who insulted St. Reagan and his wife repeatedly, has a dangerous economic policy (heavy deficit spending combined with seeking haircut defaults on many of our existing debts to foreign countries), an insane tax policy that can only be paid for by cuts all remaining Democrats in the Senate would break fillibuster records to oppose, and who, since he just now became a "Republican" after sharing views and giving money more to Dems than Republicans, they don't trust to keep promises on the social issues that matter to them.
There IS a gigantic #NeverTrump faction. Making her case to them is sound strategy to, even if it doesn't get her their money or even their votes, keep them from coming out just to stop her.
