Related: About this forumRuss Feingold Endorses Ilya Sheyman in IL-10.
Former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) has made his first endorsement in a Democratic primary since leaving the Senate. He's putting his weight and the strength of his PAC, Progressives United, behind Ilya Sheyman, a community activist in his mid-20s running as the progressive choice in the primary to select which Democrat will get a shot at Rep. Robert Dold (R-IL), who some Democrats think is vulnerable this year...

--------------------
This is a competitive Democratic primary, in a prime pickup opportunity in November. While his opponent is a self-described New Democrat, who has made financial contributions to Republicans in the past, Ilya Sheyman is a passionate progressive activist. For example, he supports moving to a single-payer health-care system.

At first glance, Mr. Sheyman appears to be part of the solution.
It seems to me that he deserves at least as much exposure at DU as is given to a gasbag right wing entertainer.

(2,753 posts)The fight to win back the Housejust like the fights to hold the White House and Senatewill not be easy. In order to not only win, but to move any kind of agenda that addresses tax equity, environmental policy, immigration reform, housing, you name it, simply reinforcing the current Democratic narrative while being pulled further to the right by the Blue Dogs just isnt enough. We need a more democraticnote small "d"House.
We need to elect progressives.
Former Senator Russ Feingold recognizes that need and was moved to make his first endorsement in a Democratic primary since leaving the Senate. On Tuesday, Feingold pledged his support and that of Progressives Unitedhis recently formed group focused on opposing corporate powerto Ilya Sheyman, a 25-year-old community organizer running in Illinois 10th District for a shot at the incumbent, Republican Representative Robert Dold....

(9,841 posts)Yet it gets squandered to discuss other media like 24 hour news TV and shock radio, and what its producers think should be important.
Then we pout because we don't get our way.
Kick again. Because this guy and people like him are important.

While some Democratic candidates might look to co-opt the spirit and convictions of the Occupy movement, Sheyman is authentically of, by and for the 99 percent, ready to go to Washington and work with a strong grassroots to rebuild economic opportunity and fairness.
