GOP has worked hard to get Sanders as the nominee but I doubt they would help him win the presidency. Sanders is not beating Clinton now, she would have to release some of her delegates to give him the nomination.

"She can" means he absolutely believes it's possible. It says nothing about how likely he thinks it is, or where he thinks the bigger risk is. There's no contradiction.
