Bernie Sanders Blasts Republicans After Ruling That Jeopardizes Healthcare For Millions

After a George W. Bush-appointed federal judge had issued a ruling that could jeopardize health insurance subsidies for 5.9 million Americans, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders hammered the GOP.

In a statement, Sen. Sanders said:

"At a time when the United States is the only major country on Earth that doesn’t guarantee health care to all Americans – and 29 million people still lack insurance – it would be a disaster to throw millions of low-income Americans off health insurance. I fully expect that today’s decision will be reversed.

The last eight years have proven that Republicans have no interest in universal health care. Instead, they have tried time and time again to take health care away from the 20 million newly insured Americans. We should be talking about how to make health care a right for all Americans, not finding new ways to make health care unaffordable.

Instead of gutting the Affordable Care Act, we need to expand on the improvements that it has made to our health care system. The time has come for the United States to join every major country on earth in guaranteeing health care as a right to every man, woman, and child."

Bernie Sanders is correct. Republicans have shown zero interest in helping more Americans gain access to affordable healthcare. Republicans have spent eight years scheming and plotting to take healthcare away from millions.

Insurance Industry Emerges As White House Public Enemy Number One

The other big health care story right now — in addition to the bill yesterday — is the sudden emergence of the insurance industry as a full-fledged reform opponent and all-around useful foil, and the White House is rapidly turning the battleship in the industry’s direction.

Obama’s political operation, Organizing for America, has blasted an email to its massive list targeting the industry as reform public enemy number one. It seizes on that widely-criticized “report” paid for by America’s Health Care Plans finding that reform would hike premiums, which handed reform proponents a big opening to cast the industry as a bad-faith actor intent on torpedoing reform to protect profits.

“It’s becoming clear that the insurance companies will do whatever it takes to stop progress,” reads the email from OFA chief Mitch Stewart, adding that the industry “even commissioned their own slanted analysis of the Finance Committee’s legislation in an effort to defeat it.”

I was an early supporter of President Obama's health care reform plans, I did become disenchanted when he eliminated universal coverage and then took a strong regional public option off the table without even a fight, not allowing its' proponents to even be at the table.

I saw the final product as having some redeeming value ie; preexisting conditions, the cost of a woman's insurance but fundamentally it's flawed because it leaves in tact, even going so far as institutionalizing the most powerful enemies of the ACA that being the for profit "health" insurance industry of which Obama condemned in the above video and Big Pharma.

If you wish I can find you more historical posts of mine of when I could or did support President Obama on a number if issues.
