All we have are unverifiable statements of people with an ax to grind.
ETA: Actually, we have something else. We have statements from several people who were there and who report that nothing of the kind happened. Now, as far as I know, those people were also biased. Still, you'd think if this story were true, there'd be some photographic evidence, or at least one neutral journalist or other observer who saw it. It's not the sort of thing that could be carried on quietly in an obscure corner.
