(2,353 posts)Hillary already is in some polls having worse favorables than Trump. You cannot compare apples to apples. Clinton never goes up in polls only down.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)I'll give you a hint as to why.
Polls in the spring and summer before the GE don't mean shit. The polls won't start to reflect reality until after the conventions and the majority of Americans star actually paying attention.
That's a comparison of my shinny apples to your rotten apples.

GeorgiaPeanuts
(2,353 posts)In modern elections the person who has the worst favorables has almost always lost. (Almost only there in case there are any flukes not on this image)

JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)Trump winning a few polls now, in May doesn't mean shit.
Obama didn't take control of the polls until the end of September.
Prior to that McCain was wining various polls periodically.
Which is exactly what Trump is doing now.
You helped prove my point. Thanks.

(22,974 posts)Except for a couple speed bumps, Obama was in the driver's seat the whole way.

(59,504 posts)Here is my attempt at defining the subgroups of people supporting Bernie
Democratic party core - those who always vote Democratic
Independents who are on the left
Independents who are are libertarian
Independents who are mostly to the right of the Democratic party
Republican party core
Independents who are to the right of the Republicans.
Bernie may have supporters from the top four.
AT this moment, almost anyone in group one will say yes. Many of group 2 will say yes now, but a significant number might be saying "undecided". - and I suspect that over time, they will support her loudly speaking of holding their nose.
The next two groups - which I debated making one group, but reconsidered as they are different - may have a substantial number of people who Bernie did win over, but who may have problems with Clinton. Many of these might vote for the libertarian candidate or Trump or stay home.
It may be that the gun issue which hurts Sanders in the primary might be a big deal to some of these people. In addition, the whole issue of regulating Wall Street is a hard one for HRC to gain credence on - even with people like Krugman supporting her.
I would assume that almost all Bernie supporters on DU fit in the top two groups.

(6,976 posts)Double-digit Lead of 14 points has shrunk down to 4 points vs Trump in a GE match-up--Says the most recent Fox News Poll for May.
Do you believe that Bernie Sanders is 4 points ONLY better than Trump in the GE?
IF so, then BOTH Bernie & Hillary are struggling vs Trump in a GE match-up.

To me , that means they realize the danger of Trump, not that they love Sanders.

(2,101 posts)we have learned the game of Simon Says. We say what we are told. Simon says to SBS supporters, "I will vote for Clinton". Seventy two percent remain in the game.
My turn - Simon says, "Clinton is the most trusted politician in American history".

(2,101 posts)Maybe I don't check the news often enough, being of the belief that neither has their party's nomination sewn up. It would not surprise me in the least that come the GE one or both of these candidates doesn't make the ballot. That you are trusting either party's apparatus and bar any October surprises is living a lie, only said in response to your need to invoke lies.

(2 posts)I don't take that as she does not want his supporters. I take that as, because she is ahead based on her positions, it would not be prudent to adopt Sen. Sander's platform. I voted for Clinton, not Sanders, based on her platform. I don't want her to adopt his and abandon hers (mine). Now, as democrats we can always make some concessions. I'm sure she will be willing to do that as long as it's within reason. For example, instead of free college for all, what can she do to expand her present position on making college EVEN more affordable. She has already proposed allowing older people buy into Medicare. Face it, when she does try to appeal to Sanders' supporters, she is chastised and accused of stealing his positions. Fact: she is not as liberal as Sanders. Fact 2: She is far more liberal than Trump. In the end, I hope Sanders supporters will realize that HRC will be better than Trump.

(12,685 posts)1. Bernie has hardly laid a glove on Hillary and Trump is only beginning.
2. In 2008, her supporters initially didn't support Obama because of what occurred in the primary campaign so it was not difficult to bring them on board. Plus, as Clinton said, Obama was no different then her.
3. Many Bernie supporters didn't just decide this primary season not to support Clinton. Their feelings towards her are based upon things that happened prior to the beginning of this primary season and what she represents - a government bought and paid for by the 1% (though her conduct, and that of her paid hacks this primary season have hardly helped matters).
This is NOT 2008. Comparisons are useless.

I'd say barely over half of ALL Sanders supporters will vote for Clinton, though that number appears to be on a downward trend due to Csmp Weathervane's appalling behavior.

(42,862 posts)... odd how everyday ordinary people in real life are so much more reasonable than the personalities one encounters in online political discussion forums?
Not a single Sanders supporter I know has uttered anything that resembles:
-- You'll be sorry.
-- I can't wait to say I told you so.
-- I'll never vote for Hillary.
-- I'd rather vote for Trump.
-- I might vote for Trump.
-- I will vote for Trump.
-- We need to teach the party a lesson.
-- Burn it down.
-- I'll vote for nobody.
-- Nobody tells me how to vote.
-- I vote for the person not the party.
-- She's a crook.
-- She's an oligarch.
-- etc., etc., etc...
