I am a Bernie Delegate at my County Convention Tomorrow . . .

submitted 14 hours ago by HumblePeon

As the title implies, I am fortunate enough to be a Bernie Delegate at my county convention which is taking place tomorrow. After witnessing the farce of a state convention in Nevada, I want to be as best prepared as I can be, which is why I am reaching out to all of you.

I am doing so in the hopes that you can help provide some of the latest information, statistics, polls, etc. that I can use to help make a case for Bernie, and combat whatever the Hillary Camp has to say. Further, I would love to hear from your own personal experiences if you attended your county or state conventions. What arguments and rationale did you find particularly persuasive? What fell flat? What type of arguments were commonplace from the other side? Any tricks or sneaky parliamentary procedures to be on the look out for?

Any and all advice, and input is welcome. Thanks in advance, and all the best!

Good advice. Lots of articles reporting that the Sanders fans did not know the procedural R. rules of Order

Bring a Robert's Rules of Order cheat sheet so you know what the hell you are doing, and what the hell the establishment is doing:

https://www.molloy.edu/Documents/Student%20Government/MSG%20ROBERTS_RULES_CHEAT_SHEET.pdf

or

https://www.afsc.noaa.gov/education/activities/PDFs/SBSS_Lesson6_roberts_rules_of_order.pdf

or

Summary versions of Robert's Rules are all over the internet. Pick a format that works for you, print it, laminate it, and take it with you.

Get there early so you'll have time. Take note of the section on Decorum. Here's that section from the Nevada State Convention rules document. Most conventions' rules follow the same pattern. After the Nevada debacle, you may find the decorum rules more strictly enforced:

Decorum
a. All delegates, alternates, and guests are entitled to attend and participate in the
convention free of harassment or intimidation. Anyone harassing or attempting to
intimidate any delegate, alternate, or guest to the convention shall be ejected from the
convention immediately and shall forfeit any fees paid for the convention or other
convention activities.
b. Any intentional disruption of any convention activities may result in immediate ejection
from the convention, including the forfeiture of any fees paid for the convention or
other convention activities.
c. Guests invited to speak to the convention shall not have their remarks or presentations
interrupted or interfered with in any manner, including auditory or visual distractions
from the floor. Violation of this rule may result in immediate ejection from the
convention, including the forfeiture of any fees paid for the convention or other
convention activities.
d. Noisemakers of any kind are prohibited at the convention.
e. Conversation on the floor should be kept to a minimum out of respect for guests,
delegates and speakers. Those delegates, alternates, and guests wishing to converse
should exit the floor.
f. The Sergeant(s) at Arms shall have the authority to enforce these rules with the
approval of the Convention Chair.

Probably because the people were all from the same area and more attended.

As I moved on to the 2nd convention that is where I saw some problems. Voting for committees to run the show next year was done by slates proposed by Clinton people. When the slates were presented for vote there was only that one slate and most of us did not have any idea who these people were. I suspect re-elected a Clinton slate. Ask who the slate represents before voting. That way you can make sure that both Clinton and Bernie supporters are on the slate.

Are going to get their feelings hurt if people try to ram through, violate procedure, and my goodness...start booing and closing fists...which in other normal countries is called politics. Prepare to set safe spaces for the cookies and lactaid as well.

I swear, I wish I were kidding

On a very serious note, bring a phone and record everything.

a comment said at the Nevada convention the officials kept stalling in order to get people to leave, so Bernie supporters started ordering pizzas until they began confiscating them and throwing them out.

Placed at real medical risk? We are going to cover the Bernie rally today. I am diabetic, you do not want to peek into my backpack. Though I need to pack a glucometer as well.

...but keep in mnd that many States determine the allocation of Presidential convention delegTes based on the public Primary and Caucus votes, and whatever happns at the Party convention won't affect that.
