2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum"Bernie Loses His Halo. Even progressives are criticizing him now after he’s shown a harder edge."
...
Actually, Sanders hasnt lost much support among his most avid supporterswho do not include Moulitsas, a sometime critic. What we are seeing, however, is that its no longer taboo in liberal circles to attack Sanders as he drags out the nomination process at a time when many are itching to turn their fire on Donald Trump. And if his reputation in the party is being damaged outside his base, that will make it harder for him to extract concessions from Clinton regarding the platform and party nomination rules at the convention.
Through much of the campaign, Sanders wore a progressive halo, making it tricky for Clinton to play classic hardball politics (not that she didnt try). Even if Democratic voters didnt believe he was the practical choice, his platform still spoke to the ideological aspirations of many in the party. His supporters heard, I like Bernie, but so much that they turned it into a website providing information designed to assuage unsure voters.
Much of the warm, fuzzy sentiment was based on a perception of Sanders as a non-politician, a man so wedded to his ideals that he would not besmirch them by engaging in petty politics. Democrats of all stripes lauded Sanders in October when he went out of his way to keep the debate focus on policy and take an enticing line of attack off the table, thundering, The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails.
But in the months that followed, the Sanders campaign adopted an increasingly harder edge, gradually depriving him of angelic protections. Now, with only six states remaining on the primary calendar, the delegate math harder and harder to ignore, and the Clintons lead over Donald Trump short of insurmountable, partisan impulses on the left are kicking in, and patience for squabbles is wearing thin.
...
Right now, the media is getting a lot of the sport it likes, and Sanders is getting a lot less of what he likes. He might consider delivering a speech on how giving reporters fodder for stories about discord only serves to take the spotlight away from income inequality and corporate influence over democracy which would be a way to urge better behavior from his supporters without sounding like hes scolding them.

Until February, I would've been perfectly happy to vote for either him or Hill in the GE. Sure, I had a penchant for Hill, but Bernie would've been fine.
Now, I firmly believe that he has neither the temperament nor the political acumen to serve as President. His campaign has proven that verity to me.

(110,159 posts)supporters but the man at the top. I disconnected from him early on, listening to him and educating myself. Also a big part was listening to the truth about Clinton, not the smears. But now I am with you. I do not respect the man. To run on integrity but lack so, really pisses me off.
Mostly his is merely being a politician but even that, he denies and points the fingers at others.
Along with SUper Pacs, taking money from Wall Street and banks, having donations from fracking. Just so much hypocrisy that he boldly put out there.
I would vote for him, only because of the Supreme court, and even that, I am no longer confident in his choice. But, I do not respect the man any more.

And y'all want to "move on" to the GE?
"Sadly," "too many of you" just don't get it. Clinton has no appeal to half of us Democrats, who in total comprise a rather small demographic in the GE voting population, which is now dominated by Independents (40+% of the electorate) who loathe Clinton. Bernie draws Independents, young people and disaffected voters of all kinds, and draws them in droves. Clinton's negatives may well destroy the Democratic Party in the GE.

(47,803 posts)People were attracted to Sanders in part because he is a fighter. The fact that he is continuing the fight is a strength, not a weakness.
The "raised pinky" objections that he didn't tell his supporters to "go to hell and behave" in terms the Clintonian Yuppie progressives like Josh Marshall and Markos feel is not strong enough is just more propaganda from the Conventional Wisdom Machine. Even that Sally Kohn article was filled with the standard cliches that Sanders is the candidate of "angry white men" and "Berniebros."
Sanders does not have a "halo." He is a politician, always has been. But that also means he knows how to fight and is willing to fight for principles he and his supporters believe in. Nothing wrong with that.

(15,445 posts)Smell disorder facts*
*Smell disorder facts by John P. Cunha, DO, FACOEP
People who experience smell disorders experience either a loss in their ability to smell or changes in the way they perceive odors.
Hyposmia is when the ability to detect odor is reduced. Anosmia is when a person can't detect odor at all. Some people experience change in the perception of odors, or notice that familiar odors become distorted, or may perceive a smell that isn't present at all.
Smell disorders have many causes including illness such as upper respiratory infection, injury, polyps in the nasal cavities, sinus infections, hormonal disturbances, dental problems, exposure to certain chemicals such as insecticides and solvents, some medicines, and radiation due to head and neck cancers.
Obesity, diabetes, hypertension, malnutrition, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, and Korsakoff's psychosis are all accompanied or signaled by chemosensory problems like smell disorders.
There is no specific treatment for smell disorders. If the cause is due to medication, adjusting or changing the drug may relieve symptoms. If an underlying illness causes the smell disorder, when that illness resolves or is treated the sense of smell usually returns. Surgery can remove nasal polyps.
Every year, thousands of people develop problems with their sense of smell. In fact, more than 200,000 people visit a physician each year for help with smell disorders or related problems. If you experience a problem with your sense of smell, call your doctor. This fact sheet explains smell and smell disorders.
Many people who have smell disorders also notice problems with their sense of taste. Continue Reading

The problem isn't Bernie Sanders' supporters, Moulitsas wrote. It's Bernie Sanders himself
[He] refuses to forcefully and unambiguously reject that violence, instead rationalizing and explaining it away with a mix of grievances and outright conspiracy theory.
Other liberals have already said basically the same thing. That the problem is not his supporters, but Sanders himself. He keeps inciting his supporters by constantly mentioning that the primary process is rigged against him. This is the same process that was in place when Obama was nominated. Although Obama's advantage in both pledged delegates and the popular vote were razor thin, Hillary never claimed that the system was rigged against her. Instead, she graciously released her delegates at the convention. Hillary's lead is insurmountable, but I doubt that Sanders will be as gracious as she was in 2008. He seems intent on causing strife at the convention, further dividing the Democratic party and indirectly helping Trump.
Disgusting behavior..........
