Here’s What Bernie Sanders Should Ask For At The Convention

Sooner or later, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is going to clinch the Democratic nomination outright. At that point, it’ll be time for another round of hard choices, because in order to move forward, she’ll have to knit the fractious Democratic coalition back together. And she’ll have to close the deal with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) before the July convention in Philadelphia. What to do, what to do? Besides maybe electing Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s primary opponent, Tim Canova. (Which wouldn’t be a bad idea, to be honest.)

<snip>

Here at First To Last, we’ve written out a menu of friendly gestures, ranging from fun and good cheer to serious offers that could define Clinton’s campaign and point the way toward a shared future between both candidates’ camps. The best thing about all these suggestions is that America wins in every instance. So much winning. By Jove, maybe everyone will be bored of winning, who knows. Feel free to add your own in the comments!

1) BEN & JERRY'S
Every good banquet starts with a nice amuse bouche, to set the tone for the meal to come. Kick off the convention by inviting those Sanders delegates for an ice cream social, a must for any hot July in Philly. The gratis pints of Cherry Garcia will help create an atmosphere of Vermont cheer.

2) GIVE BERNIE A SERIOUS ROLE IN THE 'VEEPSTAKES'
Sanders may not be the ideal running mate, but he should have some input on who is. Give him some shortlist say, at the minimum, and affirm that his picks will get heavy consideration. It is probably the case that the Clinton ticket will need to be balanced with someone closer to the Sanders axis.

3) PRIMETIME SPEECH SLOT
This is a must. You got to give Bernie his turn on the convention stage. And not a forgettable slot, either. Monday night is out. It has to be, at the very least, Tuesday, if not Wednesday (if not Thursday).
