2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAny Ohio people here? David Gergen and John King on CNN just said that all the energy
on the ground in Ohio the last few days is for Romney and it feels totally different than 4 years ago when the energy was for Obama.
Are they full of shit?

(1,277 posts)I don't watch CNN much anymore but I keep wondering who will be the first on that network to step up and call bullshit on this charade.
Obama is ahead in virtually every swing state this side of North Carolina. And he's got a fighting chance to win that too.
Intrade, Silver, Princeton and virtually every other indicator is strongly favoring Obama.
On top of all of that he has had a helluva good week while this week has been a catastrophe for Willard.
To quote Mr. Hand from Fast Times at Ridgemont High "What are you people, on dope?".

(290 posts)Every single thing Romney stands for is the direct opposite that could help Ohio. And there are even cases that Romney was against it (e.g Auto bailout) that would have destroyed Ohio. But yet, somehow these people will vote for him? Huh?
This tells me that people are truly dumb and deserve to be exploited. Obama may not be perfect but Romney is disturbingly worse.

(69 posts)And I hate to admit this, but a lot of the people that hate Obama are out and out racist.........they listen to rush limbaugh and they quote fox like they have been hypnotized. Now there are some republicans in NW Ohio that are farmers and they always vote republican and there are some die hards, but for the most part the other tea party types are bigots. I do have one black woman I work for that is a republican, but she is a moron and it is more about abortion that anything else.

(304 posts)Were they clear as to WHERE the hell in Ohio this "energy" is coming from? The fuck?
If they talking about central Ohio, truth is no one is pumped for either candidate. I'm trying to get people here in Columbus to vote early for Obama, but for some reason central Ohio is just so lackluster in this election. A lot of people here are not waking up and taking this seriously. They're more worried about the damn Buckeyes(who I love) having a perfect season. But I am sure they will go for Obama on election day.
Northeast Ohio is totally pumped for Obama, so I know they can't be talking about there. They're the reason why Obama will carry this state. I'm proud of Northeast Ohio.
Maybe the Cincinnati area? They voted for Obama in 08, but they are definitely more pro-Romney this time around. But CNN needs to tell the truth about that area. It's racist as hell, and a lot of people were shocked that they even went blue in 08.
Northwest Ohio(Toledo area), I'm not sure what's going on there.
And the rest of Ohio(rural areas) is racist, so yeah.

(290 posts)Its the democrats that have problems voting. If they aren't enthused you are fucked.
Republicans on the other hand will even get the dog ready to go out and vote on election day. Never fails...no matter how crappy their candidate is.
Faith9326
(304 posts)I said that in my post. People in Northeast(Cleveland area) Ohio are very fired up. These are where the blue-collar workers are, they really don't like Mitt.
Franklin County will go blue, I have no doubt. I was just stating that people aren't pumped for either candidate. But it will go blue, no doubt.

(35,364 posts)right about Romney people being way more energized here. I have a feeling Ohio may surprise everyone Tuesday night. Sorry but you asked.

(304 posts)And I disagree. Ohio is going for Obama. Bottom line.

(35,364 posts)opinion, I am sorry if it is not what people want to hear. Here is something I experienced, a couple weeks ago Bill Clinton came to Wintersville Ohio. Everyone was on their feet for Clinton, same for Gov. Strickland, Clinton said we need to support Sherrod Brown and he got huge applause, then Clinton said we need to re-elect Obama there was a few scattered claps. People showed up for Bill Clinton but there just didn't seem to be much enthusiasm for Obama. I went to the Obama local office to listen to Obama's speech at the convention I would say 10 people showed up.
goblue316
(69 posts)Wintersville and this is Appalachia......there are lots of working class people, lots of drugs, lots of bigots. Jefferson County would be bluer than blue if President Obama was a white man.

(24,411 posts)Obama is leading in the polls, all Ohio polls--that's #1.
#2. Obama has twice as many field offices as Romney, in Ohio.
#3. Romney has lied his way through Ohio and Ohioans know it, as the auto companies have publicly denounced Romney's lies about Jeep outsourcing to China. Ohio knows better than any state what a liar he is!
#4. Romney was wrong on the auto bailout and this blasts into his assertion that he is better on the economy. His very public rip on the bailout hurt him with so many in Ohio who are connected to the auto industry. Obama was clearly right, and Ohioans know that Obama helped their economy, which is doing better than the national average.
SO WHAT IN THE HELL ARE GERGEN AND KING DOING???
Not one poll, not one shred if evidence, backs up their opinion. Stuff like this infuriates me. Why don't they just go to work for the Romney campaign and get it over with!

(24,411 posts)...to this Presidential election, is so absurd.
I wasn't very motivated to vote in 2010. In fact, I was angry and disappointed in Obama. Many Dems were a bit disillusioned by 2010 and it was not a presidential race.
So comparing 2010 and 2012, is like comparing apples to hockey pucks.
I am so fired up to vote on Tues and most Dems I know are just as motivated as they were in 2008. Most Dems are distraught and terrified over a the mere thought of a Romney presidency. Imagine if George W Bush was running against Obama--and how that would make Dems run to the polls! Most of us consider Romney to be ten times worse than Bush!
I am horrendously motivated to vote--both for Obama and against Romney. I think Dem hatred for Romney is the most under reported reality of the campaign season.
Did you know that absentee and early voting in my swing state of Iowa is higher than 2008??? There is a ton of white-hit enthusiasm against Romney and it will be very evident in election night, that's for sure!

(4,551 posts)That's where the big Republican rally is, so I would assume it IS a Republican stronghold.
But earlier today when CNN released its OHIO poll at 4:00 pm, John King himself admitted that Obama has consistently been ahead in Ohio for weeks now.
And last week David Gergen said that he gave the edge to Obama in terms of who would win the Presidency.
So perhaps they are referring to the fact that compared to 2008 Obama is not at the height he was, or that compared to McCain Romney is doing better?

(827 posts)Ita a given the energy around Obama isn't where it was in 2008 but you can't just transfer that to Romney and say he has it either. You'd see that in the polls somewhere.

(69 posts)Ohio is bluer than blue for Obama. I live in Northwestern Ohio and I have never seen so many Democratic Yard signs in the past 15 years. Obama supporters are riled up and ready to vote or everyone I know already has voted. I know a few republicans and none are excited for Robme but they are voting for him because they are die hards.
And by the way..........Obama will end his campaigning here IN OHIO on Monday afternoon with a Concert from Jay Z at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

(14 posts)Just did some diggin' to see where in OH King and Gergen are right now and didn't see the piece you mention - but I did find King reporting today from Cincinnati. Yes, the wonderful part of the world that brought us Marge Schott. This perspective outta Cincinnati is a bit like the guy in Berlin in June of 1944 who says "I think we're winning the war."
A rapper I know (from Cincy, like me - but long moved on) once kicked off a verse with the line "Cincinnati - Big OH Racist Town". First time I saw him after I heard the song I said, "you're wrong about Cincinnati, it's not that big."
Damn I miss Skyline though.

(3 posts)Romney and GOP realize the media are idiots and want the outcome of Tuesday to be in doubt so they planned this mega-rally. They do have 20K...but so what? did you see the guest list?
According to cincinnati.com:
However, GOP primary opponents Rick Santorum and Rick Perry will be, along with: Senator Kelly Ayotte, Senator Kay Bailey-Hutchinson, Mr. Hector Barreto, Congressman Marsha Blackburn, Speaker John Boehner, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Governor Sam Brownback, Governor Phil Bryant, Ms. Bay Buchanan, Congressman Jason Chaffetz, Secretary Elaine Chao, Senator Norm Coleman, Mrs. Barbara Comstock, Congressman Artur Davis, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Senator Lindsey Graham, Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey, Governor Dave Heineman, Governor Bobby Jindal, Treasurer Rosario Marin, Mrs. Cindy McCain, Senator John McCain, Governor Bob McDonnell, Mr. Derek Parra, Senator Rob Portman, Chairman Reince Priebus, Congresswoman Martha Roby, Dr. Ben Romney, Mr. Craig Romney, Mr. Josh Romney, Mr. Matt Romney, Mr. Tagg Romney, Senator Marco Rubio, Congressman Aaron Schock, Governor John Sununu, Senator Jim Talent, Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor, Senator John Thune, Senator Pat Toomey, Governor Scott Walker.
I would certainly hope 20K would show up to that in their Ohio stronghold.
How much would Obama get if he came with Biden, Clinton, Kerry, Gore, Rendell, Caroline Kennedy, etc etc.
Please, they planned this event, Boehner brought the crowd, and the media idiots from Gergen to Dumbizzla to Joe Klein will eat it up.
