DKos: Sanders to be given "unusually high" say in the Democratic Party platform moving forward

Sanders to be given "unusually high" say in the Democratic Party platform moving forward

According to the Washington Post, Sanders will name 5 members to the committee that drafts the new Democratic party platform and Clinton will name 6. Giving the runner-up this level of input in the platform moving forward is unusual, and speaks to the Democratic Party’s desire to be inclusive and respect the views of Sanders and his supporters.

Sen. Bernie Sanders will get highly unusual say over the drafting of the Democratic Party platform this year even if, as expected, he loses the primary contest to Hillary Clinton.

The two Democratic candidates have agreed with Democratic Party officials to a new apportionment of the 15-member committee that writes the platform, according to Democratic officials familiar with the compromise worked out this month.

Note that this agreement was agreed upon by both Sanders and Clinton, which also illustrates Clinton’s willingness to be a team player. Hopefully supporters of both candidates can see this as a step forward toward party unity.

It's gonna take longer than a year before faith in government can heal. But with Bernie at least it has a chance to heal, right?

With H, it will be heel to government.

just like dems did when they were outraged over republican voter fraud or what bush did in florida in 2000 yet they committed voter fraud on far greater level throughout the primarys.

Amazing power you have.

Florida in 2000 saw the Democrats thoroughly bamboozled.

As for today, each case of voting issues in this primary season is an isolated case. There is no connection between Arizona and New York. In Arizona, that was Republicans fucking with Democrats, plain and simple. The GOP has an iron grip on Arizona and nothing's going to happen.

But in New York, establishment Democrats are investigating. Both the States Attorney's office and the City Comptroller are investigating. Two people have already been removed from the Brooklyn BoE. So the argument that "establishment" Democrats are disinterested or committing some kind of fraud is laughably hallow.

Just like how she cut off the Sanders campaign from voter data, she had to pull back, because you don't fuck around like that.

If you don't expect them to uphold the platform that will have no incentive to.

It's up to us to hold them accountable.

This inconsequential activism is our problem.

The article glosses over the fact that the DNC will pick the other 4 which will likely be very conservative.

That is the real story.

Just checked

5:6 is 84%.

However the other 4 DNC picks will be on the right.

So it is more like 5:10 or 50%

So they have weighted power disportionately about 33.3% towards the establishment.

Math!

Each DNC (Democratic National Convention) forms a platform committee who's job it is to spell out what the platform will be for the party in that election. Basically, its what the party will be running on for the election. The whole party. Presidential, Senate and House candidates.

The WaPo is saying Bernie is getting to pick 1/3 of the people who will be on that committee. Hillary will get 6 of them, and the remaining 4, I imagine, will be selected by other people. Perhaps Harry Read and Nancy Pelosi or maybe the President, I don't know really.
