In 2000: People said there was no difference between Al Gore and George W Bush

It was before DemocraticUnderground existed. I would engage in discussions with people on the left and right. What struck me was that many people on the Left hated Gore. They thought he was no different than George W, saying that the government under either would be the same.

Gore, they said, was boring, to self-involved, not fair to others, boorish, hated guns. What would be the difference if George w - a guy who seemed to lie about everything, but who could be sure - became president?

History shows us differently. I would have preferred a world where Gore took office - I believe he actually did win the Presidency - instead of the one where the office was stolen by the Supreme court, led by scalia and Thomas (with Sandra O'Conner publically stating that she wanted to retire under a republican president).

Things became so bad for free speech. That's when we found this site and some comfort during the awful, scary bush years.

That created an entire generation of children living in poverty and those now adults are still in poverty. So no, Gore was no saint. I support his environmental work but not his economic work.

other places as well. If we didn't spend trillions on war and taxed the rich, we could afford things like expanding SS, Medicare for All, and tuition free college, and we wouldn't have to compromise on budget deals and cut social services.

DIFFERENCE.

If anything, it is the independents and others that were voting people against the war out of office at the time Max Cleland comes to mind (a war hero and amputee) who was voted out because the public thought he was anti-military.

The Democratic Party used to be anti-war. Now they will do whatever it takes to win even if it means compromising their principals and allowing thousands to die in war and waste our tax money that could be spent on social services just like the Republicans.

Good for you. All I know is what did happen, and I Gore did support throwing people off of welfare. The majority of Democrats support spending trillions on war, are too afraid to raise taxes, and then tell us we must compromise and cut social services during budget cuts. I am done arguing with you. I am moving on to another thread.

from bin laden made that conclusion.

Why? Because, when similar threats were being received in 1999, Clinton and Gore met everyday until the attacks were stopped. Bush went on vacation. Simple google searches prove this.

So it's not my gift, rather, rather the experts who know.

The greens stopped the progressive movement in its tracks...gave Bush the majority of court picks which lead to United...two wars and economy that collapsed...and you think we should elect someone who thinks like you? Bernie Sanders will never be president.

I wish Hillary will sow up the nomination so things can get to normal and we can fight the true republican enemy again.

since Al Gore wasnt POTUS, it would be difficult to make a judgement about his personal responsibility for perception problems.
wouldnt it be more accurate, if you want to name names, that there was a sense of very little difference between Bill Clinton and the Republicans?
an odd charge, unless you are factoring sexual affairs.
as important as they may be for the dischargers,

He lost a low turnout campaign because of low turnout and lack of enthusiasm.

Would Gore have been a better president? Probably.

But we would most certainly still have had 9/11 and then you would have really seen a right wing takeover of government.
