Related: About this forumTweety: Networks will name HRC the nominee before CA polls close
.....on election day. He was predicting that networks will drive down voting in CA by including the super delegates in her count and implying it's over.
Did anyone hear him talking about that?

the candidate his constituency did? Nah, hell with democracy.....

want Bernie, The supers are hugely Un democratic.

(25,816 posts)My point is that Bernie has, what, 40% 0f the vote? But certainly not 40% of the supers.
Supers suck. They're often bought, influenced, promised favors, etc. Their votes are said
to be worth many thousands of regular voters. Not right.

Either case she wins.

(58,724 posts)If the supers are assigned by the same percentages as the pledged, then the pledged delegate winner would be the nominee. And that is looking like it will almost certainly be Hillary.
panader0
(25,816 posts)Oh yeah, they're elite, and can piss on the electorate.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)It does not seem that they serve any purpose.
In terms of this particular election cycle, though, it appears that the winner in terms of pledged delegates will be Hillary so the only way the Supers could influence the results would be if they went against the pledged delegate winner and chose Bernie instead based on Bernie's argument that he has a better chance to beat Trump.
That would be inherently anti-democratic, wouldn't it?

for Bernie. So Al is still a super for HRC. Not right in my opinion.

You support charades, I get that.
Why should tax payers pay for any of itl? Why are we pretending that we are participating in a democratic process, when it's just all a big dog and pony charade?

Shifty bastards.

(154,021 posts)but unethical behavior with the donkeys is A ok. Of course then they wonder why I now consider the D side of the house a conservative right wing party. This is the minor issue. But it is part of it.
Retrograde
(10,137 posts)We're not like New York, where everyone votes on the same day, save the few who are granted absentee ballots. Anyone here can request a mail-in ballot, or go down to the county registrar and vote in person before the election - some counties even have additional early voting sites!
According to my county election people, my own ballot was received and counted last week (although by "counted" I think they mean "verified the signature and put in the good pile.
The reason the networks want to jump the gun is probably the 3 hour time difference: why should people on the East Coast have to stay up late just so West Coasters can cast their votes without influence from people deciding it's all over?

(94,602 posts)...The race won't be called until 9 PM at the earliest
That's 6 PM California time. The number of people who 1) didn't vote early and 2) gave up voting because of a political news show they're not watching (because they're in line voting) is minimal.
anotherproletariat
(1,446 posts)In the 2014 primary, it was 70%...and there has been a huge surge in people changing to permanent vote-by-mail status since then. I don't think making an early call will really have that much impact on the CA vote totals.

(16,631 posts)anchor was mentioning Bernie's rally today in Santa Monica (he's had several today, alone). She
prefaced the snippet of his speech by saying something along lines of: "Bernie will not win the
California primary or the nomination but here is some of his speech."
Was so livid, could hardly drive. Waited til got off freeway and called the newsroom. Amazing that they
pick up the phone there. Man says it was probably an op ed piece. I said, no, it's the regular anchor (I could
recognize her voice and name). So upsetting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
