2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton has a new weapon against Trump: Elizabeth Warren
Washington Post:Warren (D-Mass.) has stayed out of the ongoing Democratic primary race between Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont she is the only Democratic woman in the Senate who has not endorsed Clinton but she recently has become more aggressive in taking on Trump on his favorite medium, Twitter.
...snip...
Donald Trump was drooling over the idea of a housing meltdown because it meant he could buy up a bunch more property on the cheap, Warren said. What kind of a man does that? Root for people to get thrown out on the street? Root for people to lose their jobs? Root for people to lose their pensions?
The timing of her remarks Tuesday, and their convergence with Clintons stump message in California the same day, was not entirely a coincidence. And it may serve a dual purpose for Clinton: helping her begin the general-election battle against Trump, but also beginning the difficult task of unifying the fractured Democratic Party.

(1,674 posts)Liz is smart to say neutral. it does no good to support either candidate because she knows it was a known result. She wants to hit wall street and will nail Hillary about gifts to wall street, and she has much more power than Sanders. Of all three, Warren is the strongest in the public's eye, supporting all the people and staying out of partys. She will support the winner.
Who really cares who will be the Pres, Congress will stymie either one.
Only Warren will be left standing

(36,418 posts)Hillary is fatally compromised as a candidate, and it has been apparent for a long time that the FBI will eventually find that she violated her security clearance. Even if Comey leaves it to the AG to decide whether a Grand Jury should be convened, Clinton will no longer be viable after the FBI report is released.
Someone will have to take the reigns. Might as well be Warren.

(6,551 posts)Warren has accomplished more in her 3 years in the Senate than Bernie has in his 25 years! When she talks about income inequality and Wall Street, her colleagues actually listen.
It is not smart for her to endorse Bernie whose campaign is over. We need her voice and presence in the Senate more than ever.

See, this is when Brock trash comes in handy. Our side may not agree on everything, but we SHOULD agree that Trump shouldn't be let into the White House except on a guided tour.

(27,787 posts)I wish I could say I saw it coming months ago.
Bernie supporters would love Warren to walk away from Clinton, but that's not going to happen.
Trump has attacked Warren on multiple occasions. She's not going to take that.
So in the end, Warren will be attacking Trump right back ... over and over ... which helps Hillary.
And probably upset some of our more disgruntled Bernie supporters.

(17,651 posts)Hillary ebbs and flows like the tide, spins like a windblown weathervane, evolves from one week to the next, mimics other populist candidates and tells one group of people one thing and tells another group the exact opposite.
So on a particular issue Warren and Clinton may travel the same course then one of them runs through the weeds to get to the next $2700 a plate fundraiser.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)... but the fact remains that as we head towards the General election ... Warren will be attacking Trump and not attacking Hillary.
They will be strong and obvious allies in that regard.
You can certainly hope for some other outcome, but I doubt it will be anything different from what I've described.

(17,651 posts)Warren is The People's advocate.
Clinton is the advocate of the 1%.
Whether Warren gets out there and stumps for a candidate like Clinton remains to be seen.
It would certainly be a Lesser of Two Evils and even Warren can't work the miracle of infusing enthusiasm in a situation like that.
Cosmocat
(14,567 posts)is going to do the same, I suspect, once the primary clears ...
It can't just be Warren, a couple more high profile dems have to go after him, force him to respond to them and keep him from driving the topic all the time, while allowing the candidate to stay above it mostly, and pick and choose when to engage.
Time for team D to grow a set ...

(27,787 posts)... DEMOCRATIC voice attacking Trump.
Hillary won't have to call in Warren airstrikes ... she'll be calling them in herself.
And either way, it helps Clinton win the General.
Autumn
(45,120 posts)mouth about those issues that are important to her. If Hills was sitting on a beach in the Bahamas Liz would still be calling Trump out . Liz is a strong woman that has the courage of her convictions .
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)And there will be more.
There are lots of Bernie supporters who will be upset when Warren endorses Clinton. Which she will do.
She'll probably campaign for her too.
Warren may even get a nice slot at the convention to rip Trump a new ass.
And Trump to my glee ... is actually ensuring such things are likely by attacking Warren and Clinton at the same time.
Win win in my book.

(36,418 posts)And, that won't be Hillary after Comey confirms what we all have known for a long time. Clinton violated her security clearance. She probably won't even be indicted, and the AG will run out the clock until Obama pardons her at the end of his term. But, Hillary is no longer viable as the Democratic candidate.

(18,837 posts)In the strictest of black & white definitions, "attacking" Trump "benefits" Clinton...BY DEFAULT, not DESIGN.
"Anti-Trump" DOES NOT automatically translate to "Pro-Clinton."
But she is NOT "endorsing" Clinton...at least not as of May 25, 2016.
She is NOT "Clinton's Secret Weapon"...and if she IS, that pact happened behind closed doors, NOT in public.
Cosmocat
(14,567 posts)This shot came just as Hillary's campaign did a major ad release with the actual clips of Trump saying he hoped the housing market would crash so he could make money off of it.
She is smart, tough and clearly likes engaging Trump at this level, and can't be the only one.
When she went after the jackass a few weeks ago on twitter it felt like it, this time she clearly followed up on the Hillary ads.
This is how it is going to have to be. Hillary can't get down that level, she has to be presidential and not respond to Trump at his level.
And, I suspect that once the primary clears, Bernie will go out and go after him in a way to provide cover for Hillary, too.

(15,951 posts)as a matter of fact Elizabeth Warren will no doubt strongly endorse and work for Hillary Clinton. It's funny that if she's such a soul mate politically to Bernie that she didn't endorse him.

(19,926 posts)Warren has always spoken out against this sort of thing. So now they're trying to co-opt her as a Clinton surrogate? Why don't they let her speak for herself on that?
The timing of this headline is, I'm sure, "not entirely a coincidence". They are trying to make it look like Warren is backing Hillary before the CA primary.
Good journalism isn't supposed to show bias or mislead people.

(14,567 posts)Warren's shot at him on this followed ads by Hillary's campaign that showed the actual clip of Trump saying he hoped the housing market would bottom out so he could make money.
This is the second time she has gone at him in a way that seemed to be providing cover for Hillary, this time with a more direct connection.
I know this is hard for some to accept, but its a good thing. Warren has not muddled into the primary race, but is clearly chomping at the bit to do her part, and she is ideal for the role she is taking on.
And, to blow more gaskets, I suspect that once the primary settles, Bernie will go out and do the same thing, strategically take shots at Trump that cause him to attack him and take his focus away from Hillary ...
A few more heavy hitter types have to help out in this way.
