2016 Postmortem

As well as in some instances the entire future of the nation. Bernie supporters have every right to fight as hard as possible. We don't have another 8 years to wait to deal with climate change, the corporate takeover of American governments (TPP, TTIP), and economic suffering by the lower 80% of society due to a federal government mostly corrupted by the top 1% and special interests that is thus unable to focus on solving any of America's problems as a result.

(5,790 posts)None of the three are spring chickens, and US history suggests it's unlikely we'll elect a 3rd straight two-term President. Also, the party in power in the White House hasn't held more than 3 consecutive terms since FDR/Truman.

(5,790 posts)Bernie Sanders is likely too old for a second term. Hillary is no spring chicken. If either is elected, the Republicans would continue their policy of obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. People aren't sick of war nearly as much as they are sick of gridlock. The problem being that as sick as they are of gridlock, they are terrified of the other party advancing their agenda. Neither side wants to sit down with the other and consider compromise.
I think whichever party loses the White House is likely to split, with the other party not being too far behind.
