2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat will happen to the GOP after Tuesday when they LOSE? I predict some fun CHAOS.
Think about it. Well over a BILLION dollars spent on their rotten ads. An economy, while slowly improving, is at almost 8% unemployment. And STILL THE the GOPUKES LOSE. They will not be able to imagine it. They will screech about voter fraud, and the MSM loving Obama, and hurricane Sandy, and Chris Christie being a traitor, and that they should have nominated someone else, .... bla bla bla... And they will want to fire "RINSED PENIS" from his post as GOP chairman, and FreepLand will have a major freakout, and they are going to go into disarray, and oh, it is just going to be SO MUCH FUN !!

(6,041 posts)'liberal' dirty tricks and Hollywood liberals Katy Perry/Madonna/Springsteen/Clooney...any excuse except for the most obvious. That is Mitt and their candidates which I liken to a bunch of turds. You may be able to polish a turd but in the end they are still turds.
The lesson the GOP should head. 60 years ago it took moderate Eisenhower, not conservative Robert Taft to get them in the White House. Conventional wisdom, kick the shambles of the Tea Party to the curb because they became the detriment to them taking the senate. Take the losses for the short term and build a better party. Any chances of that happening? I think we know the answer.

(17,651 posts)Teabaggery must GO!
Haven't these idiots been paying attention? Even here in NC, Teabag Queen Renee Ellmers even STFU after riding the Teabag Express (NC being a purple state that will get bluer and bluer). Not raging Renee anymore, more like pacifier Patty.
I changed my mind about the rehab. Exorcism is what's needed.
After seeing what the tea party is all about, the majority of Americans reject it, 4 more years will be the proof!

(3,003 posts)Either they acquiesce to their demands or the tea-baggers will form a their own party (like the "Constitutional Party" or some bull shit euphemistic name), which will throw the Republican Party to the brink of extinction.

(1,250 posts)This is The End for the Southern Strategy which is the driving force behind the Republican Party's numbers.
Obama winning here & winning in landslide form will show everyone once & for all that their band of bigots can't win national elections anymore.
They will either triple down with this strategy for 2016, get beaten even worse, & become more irrelevant
OR
They will purge the bigots & go searching for a new loyal base to pad the greedy rich guys running the party which puts them in the wilderness for the next few elections.
What that really means is that the party as we know it is dead on the National Level.
They may not be able to recover after allowing the bigots to have shelter & political influence in their party.
They may not able to find another reliable AND sizable enough base to replace them.
And they certainly can't go on with them in the near future.
On the Regional Level the Republican Party will be around for a good while to come but since they will lose a National platform eventually their regional power will get weaker & weaker every election cycle.
The Republican Party may just Whig out if ya smell what The Rock is cookin'.
When they stopped being the Party of Lincoln in 1877 leaving the Blacks in the lurch, they began to lose their moral edge.
By backing the greedy rich over time, they began to lose it even more.
When they invited the racists after the 1964 Civil Rights Act, they lost it totally.
Franklin Roosevelt helped the Democratic Party atone for its past evils & gained a moral edge.
He turned this party into a force for Social & Economic Justice for ALL & that's why the modern-day Democratic Party should be the standard-bearer for this cause.
Through Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, & now Obama who himself has an opportunity to remove the weakened will that has plagued the party for decades.
I expect him to do much better in his 2nd term than in his 1st.
I expect him to do much less unnecessary compromising & much more pushing behind what is right.
He now holds that moral edge & the Republican Party does not.
This election will show the consequences of not doing what's right.

(1,250 posts)Look at what I said here & look at what I highlighted.
OR
They will purge the bigots & go searching for a new loyal base to pad the greedy rich guys running the party which puts them in the wilderness for the next few elections.
What that really means is that the party as we know it is dead on the National Level.
I put up this hypothetical Either/Or scenario to show JUST HOW BLEAK it is for the Republican Party.
Check out the rest of that passage.
They may not able to find another reliable AND sizable enough base to replace them.
And they certainly can't go on with them in the near future.
Looks like a no-win situation, don't it?
You lay with dogs, you're gonna wake up with fleas.
And these fleas have sucked all the blood out of the Republican Party.
Parasitic ticks just bursting with sucked-up blood.
It's gonna leave that Republican Dog dead.
The Republican Party failed to do what's right in 1964 & lost their last opportunity to regain a moral edge.
If the party once identified with the slaveownersthe Democratscan atone & support legislation like the 1964 Civil Rights Act & the Republicans can't, then what does that say about the Republican Party?
They had no choice but to absorb the Democrat/Dixiecrat bigots to hold onto power.
They would have been another Whig Party if they didn't.
And sure they got about a good 50 year run out of that acquisition.
But now it's time to pay the piper.
When you make a deal with the devil, you will lose your soul in the end.

(4,157 posts)but I don't ever "misunderestimate" the power of $$, ignorance, stupidity, and greed. . .
The repukes aren't done yet, but this will be a giant blow to their self-esteem.
They'll have some other ignorant asshole in 2016, but hopefully the public has caught on that trickle down economics and a hard right-wing social agenda are NOT what we need!!
I'm looking forward to going to work on Wednesday morning.

(19,458 posts)people were posting pics of champagne on ice early in the Election Eve, high 5ing each other. Never, ever, do you want to be on DU when the election is stolen in Ohio, the way it was that night. It was horrible. That's why the long-time DUers do NOT celebrate or post things like this in advance.

(13,570 posts)winning by a small margin. We don't need to be paranoid. People are on top of ANY problems. THOUSANDS of lawyers are going to be standing by in Ohio. Obama is already way up in early voting. And if you have read my other posts you will see that I have said GOTV GOTV GOTV right through election day and have told about my TONS of GOTVing and what I will be doing myself right through election day.

(54,436 posts)Just like they started planning for the obstruction of Obama before he was even inaugurated, I think they are planning to find themselves a young, cute-talking, photogenic, obedient Republican candidate who will be a "fresh face" that won't already be old news by the time the first primaries are held.
No chaos--just another board meeting to plan out strategy, budget and expenditures--and deciding who'll be the fall guy in cases where they need to do some human sacrifice (are you listening, Ohio Secretary of State Husted? Is your political life insurance paid up?)
