(11,464 posts)I always wondered though, what made Chris Christie turn to the dark republican side in his youth?
Why wasn't he a democrat???
(but anyone from NY/NJ like myself, knows he was a certifiable anti-democrat from day one, his draconian ways is CC

(151 posts)paper ballots means we can count them if there is a need.
and it's critical folks vote regardless of power situation.
I feel bad for all the NJ Folks who lost power, etc. but I hope this means they will still try to vote (For Obama) and other dems in the state of course.. ! ; 0

(53,410 posts)I truly believe they'll vote with their entire hearts no matter how they were planning to vote before. I believe I would think of myself as a different person if I had been in Hurricane Sandy's path.

(2,391 posts)A Willard admin. would cut off all current aid to NJ for Sandy-related relief and would eliminate FEMA altogether. Plus, the personal blowback for Christie from Willard and his thugs would be brutal.
I imagine the same goes for Bloomberg. He'll be just as diligent in getting ballots to his polling stations, too, and for the same reasons.

(375 posts)I vote by paper ballot. Once I was in line to vote and this guy next to me said he was voting by paper ballot because, being in the IT field, he knew what kind of problems could happen with electronic voting. In fact there have been problems with the machines in this county, enough to draw the notice of our former Republican Congressman.
Myself, I don't believe any of the conspiracy theories that have been floating around, like that Bush stole the election from Kerry in '04. But that doesn't mean that there aren't problems with these systems.

(1,881 posts)Why not? He seems to be in a position to lead the GOP away from the batshit crazy insanity that's consumed the party since Clinton.

(8,391 posts)I don't agree with his political views but I gi ve him credit where it's due. He isn't stupid, he doesn't just go with the flow of the GOP (remember he nominated a Muslim as a judge) and he isn't a religious whacko. Republicans like Christie can bring the party back from the whackadoodle of the GOP, which he doesn't seem to have any patience for.

(36,974 posts)On Saturday, the president will continue to oversee the federal government's response to Sandy.
Per The Associated Press:
Obama will convene a meeting with his team in the morning, to be joined by telephone by officials including Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Federal Emergency Management Administrator Craig Fugate, as well as other members of the Cabinet.
Following the meetings, administration officials will visit storm-damaged communities throughout the affected region to view response efforts firsthand, and make sure necessary resources are being provided.

Update: At 2:30 eastern, a live press conference with Governor Christie just wrapped up. He stated he is still satisfied with the response from President Obama in response to a reporter's question.

(14,337 posts)My daughter heard that on the radio. I guess it's not just NJ.
We drove around today and there are still live downed wires accross some streets. They have taped off the streets in places.
