2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI don't think this Clinton Memorial Day weekend news dump is going to work
I honestly didn't think there was anything to the email accusations. But I think I was very, very wrong.I just wanted Bernie to win the nomination outright. (I know, still a long shot chance)
Now looking and reading about this email story and learning the seriousness of what happened, and the revelation her excuse for the past year is pure hogwash, I think she is done.
I hope and pray with all my heart these last few primaries pull out big, crazy win for Bernie. The thought of her as the nominee in the GE literally makes my stomach hurt. But OMG this email story!!!
As much as I disagree with so many of her policies and tactics I don't want her to go out like this and it really does not look good for her.
I'm going to send Bernie a few bucks today even though I don't get paid til Tuesday

(7,723 posts)I think this is a game changer, since the WaPo and other outlets are really slamming her on this.

(15,646 posts)it keeps growing worse.
If Hillary takes the nomination, she better be able to put this to rest once and for all. But not sure how she can do that aside from the FBI completing its "investigation" and fully clearing her pre-November. There's four months until then -- but sooner would be a whole lot better -- like right away!
It's already hurting her among potential Democratic candidate voters, and may hurt her in the remaining primaries. And it certainly makes the convention potentially even "messy"-er!

(9,385 posts)It gets much worse. The FBI has an investigation into this, and also the connection between the Clinton Foundation donations and favors granted by the State Dept (that was the "personal" stuff she didn't want found out, her reason for using the private server in the first place).
Then there are 38 civil suits centered around FOIA violations.
She knows how bad this is going to be because she knows what she did and she knows she has been found out at it. So she knows what is coming, and how ugly it is going to get.
She is simply trying to stonewall this long enough to be made the nominee because it will be that much harder for the Dem party and us voters to do anything about it. We will be stuck with her, and she's depending on fear of Trump to put us all in full denial mode and help her cover it up, so she will get away with it.
If she was in any way on the up-and-up she would be dropping out now and admitting to what she has done.

(15,238 posts)If she is indicted when presented with the option of dropping out she will say "No", I will then win a free lunch. The bet is against the Hillary supporter she will drop out of the race essentially doing the right ethical thing or "yes".
After being hammered by the State report she is still spinning. I like my odds.

(9,385 posts)The only way I see you losing is if someone behind the scenes, possibly a big donor who "gets it", pays her a lot to do the right thing. Otherwise no, you have a safe bet.
I would be shocked and impressed if she actually did step down. But she has known this was going to happen all year, and still insisted on running. The hacking revelations were more than a year ago.
What I wonder is why didn't the Clintons walk away with all the millions they made out of their schemes, retire, and end their careers in politics with a somewhat better image than they had before? Why risk it all, given what they had been doing in the State Dept.?

Most unfortunate for all of us.
