June 17, 1972...seemed like a small criminal activity....if you were around back then...

you remember, YOU KNOW, how slowly some things unravel...how tangled the strings can be...and how links that were 'severed' never actually completely disconnected...and a President went down...

and those who weren't around then, or were too young to care, might remember how some bullshit inquiry into some Presidential involvement in some 'investigations' of various activities of said President led to impeachment...

one went down...one survived impeachment...

both brought the circumstances they faced upon themselves...

However, I think it's safe to say that his "trustworthiness" suffered a bit.

yeah, it's amazing how 'trustworthiness' suffers when things like this go sideways (if they do)...Nixon, like many others, just couldn't help himself...whatever drove him to the success he desired also drove him to failure...

Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton are the only two successfully impeached Presidents...both 'saved' by the Senate...

I have to admit that I thought Gore would be a somewhat better president. It was the attempted cover-up that sunk Nixon far more than the bungled burglary. Clinton was successful because he avoided being obvious in trying to cover up his "boyish indiscretions". He didn't "quite" lie.

using Microsoft products and deciding to not use SSL. It's obvious breaking into someone's home or office is a crime. The decision to not use SSL is not as obvious to the average person.

He had to pay off the burglars to shut them up. That and other discoveries of a cover-up doomed him.

The ruling class doesn't care. They win with Dems, and they win with GOPs too.
