Vermont Becomes 8th State to Confirm It Stops More Blacks Than Whites in Traffic Stops!

Loads of traffic-stop data collected by the Vermont State Police over the last five years confirms an occurrence Black Americans are all too familiar with. A recent report revealed stark disparities between the rates at which Black drivers were stopped by Vermont police compared to whites.
According to officials, African-American drivers pulled over by state police were five times more likely to be searched than white drivers, despite the fact that contraband was more likely to be found in the cars of white motorists, ABC News reports.

When you find out the statics for the other 49 states for a comparison, and don't make an unrelated issue an exploitative campaign issue, General Discussion is a great place to talk about a myriad of topics.

African-American drivers feel the squeeze when it comes to auto insurance too. A study conducted by the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) found that African-Americans living in predominately Black communities were being hit with much higher auto insurance rates. Per Atlanta Black Star, the report showed that while white drivers were charged an average of $622 a year, Black drivers were paying up to $1,060, a 70% increase.

now these states can work on fixing it.

Racial profiling was a big problem in NYC for years & im sure still is. But a judge ruled the practice unconstitutional:

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2013/08/13/opinion/racial-discrimination-in-stop-and-frisk.html

And I won't be a hypocrite and so intellectually dishonest that I would lay this travesty of justice at the feet of former senator HRC because it is not her fault. The resolulation lay with the courts and I don't expect senators to triple multitask and do everybody's job.

That would be a lie. You know a lot about spreading lies? Idk just asking.

The data wasn't known because previously it wasn't something that many (white) people thought that much about. But due to a series of high profile race issues, that has been brought to the forefront.

Sure Sanders shoulders some of the blame, but so does everybody else. We as a society fell woefully short on this.

Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT

Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Since when does asking for a discussion about racial disparity rise to the level of "race baiting"?
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It isn't "race baiting" when it's reporting the truth. However, I don't see how Bernie is to blame.

So good that he blanks black leaders in Vermont

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/02/17/vermont-s-black-leaders-we-were-invisible-to-bernie-sanders.html

Instead, remembers Curtiss Reed Jr., the executive director of the group, it became something of a showdown. Sanders “was just really dismissive of anything that had to do with race and racism, saying that they didn’t have anything to do with the issues of income inequality,” Reed told The Daily Beast.

The data was collected by the State Police, but analyzed by researchers from Northeastern University.

Find any other state that is investing more into reform on this issue.

<snip>

Data collected over the last five years shows that ethnic minority drivers are stopped, cited and searched by the Vermont State Police at a higher rate than white drivers.

According to the research, state troopers search black drivers at five times the rate they do white drivers.

<snip>
McDevitt and Janice Iwama, a doctoral candidate at Northeastern University, presented their report to an audience of about 100, including Vermont State Police command staff from around the state, Tuesday evening at Vermont Law School.

State civil rights leaders, members of the Vermont State Police Fair and Impartial Policing Committee, lawmakers and others joined the discussion

<snip>

Throughout the evening, officials emphasized that the data analysis is not the end of the project, but a midpoint in a longer project.

Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn said the report is “part of a process that we are going to utilize as we go forward.”

“From what we’ve seen, there are two types of law enforcement agencies in this country,” Flynn said. “There are those with departments that are running away from what the data’s telling them as far as bias-free policing, and there are those that are moving toward it.”

“We have chosen to move toward it, to make ourselves better,” Flynn said.

Much, much more.
