"State Department functionaries faced a hopeless task as they tried to spin their own Inspector General's matter-of-fact critique of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's imperial attitude toward basic security measures everyone else is required by law to follow."

(6,436 posts)cyber security personnel who, to do their jobs, must be able to examine any and all emails and attachments. Thus, the security of any classified data in any emails in such an account is compromised.
NOBODY in the M$M has bothered to point this out either because they don't know this, or it clashes with the narrative that Clinton did something 1) extraordinarily unusual and 2) reckless.

Using a commercial email service provider compromises any classified info in any emails sent thru such an account. Powell and Rice both used commercial email services and conducted official business on them. What most people on this site, apparently, don't understand (certainly no media reporter seems to) is that .....
...Anyone using a personal email account through a commercial email service provider has compromised all information in those emails because all commercial email service providers have large numbers of cyber-security personnel to maintain system security from hackers and various kinds of malware and that to do their jobs they MUST have the ability to examine all emails, and associated attachments, in their system. (NOTE: these are employees of private sector companies and Do NOT have Government security clearances) Thus, anybody such as Colin Powell, Condi Rice who used personal email accounts thru commercial emails service providers for official business - and about two dozen White House advisors in the Bush White House, who used personal email accounts on commercial email service providers through an account controlled by the Republican National Committee - compromised any Classified Information in their emails. Such commercial email accounts ARE NOT SECURE.

(8,541 posts)The point you are making is very true but usually not relevant in cases like this due to point to point encryption protocols being used (not in Hillary's case). In regards to Powell and Rice. The spillage reports have been done and the level of classification contained in their emails don't come close to Hillary's.
Now read the OIG Audit and see how they were really different.

(6,436 posts)...providers as did Powell and Condi Rice. I am not aware of any info indicating that Powell and Rice encrypted their emails on their own for sending thru personal email accounts.
None of HRC's emails had classified data in them at the time she received them.
The information deemed classified long after she received it. When Powell an Rice use their personal email accounts, through commercial email service providers, to send emails including those for Government business there was no encryption of the information in those emails.

(5,442 posts)This is an excellent article, and I recommend reading the comments section for an even deeper understanding of why this is so serious. The Democratic candidate for president cannot have this kind of innuendo flying around and get elected.
