On the Bill Maher show, Bernie Sanders called Donald Trump a "pathological liar" but admitted he did not know the best way to run against him.
It appears that neither Hillary or Bernie have figured out a way to stop the insults and personal attacks from Trump.
Elizabeth Warren has been somewhat successful getting under his skin and forced him to come back with name-calling such as "Pocahontas", in reference to her Native America heritage.
There was a time when any politician that called another a "liar" would be called out for using such strong language. But Trump has changed that. Now, it appears that anything goes?
Most folks can see that Trump's insults and name-calling are little more than juvenile, grade school antics but unfortunately, they are very effective. The names, like "Crooked Hillary", stick. He is very good at branding his opponents.
I am not so sure that either Bernie and Hillary would not fall prey to the same attacks that brought down all of Trump's Republican opponents. Nothing they tried worked.
But, they need to figure it out soon, in my opinion.

(6,960 posts)honest and straight forward answer that also addressed the fact that Trump does not get called on his comments, his past, his behavior, anything.

(14,524 posts)...campaigning exactly as he has and is, is the answer.
Bernie will defeat that asshat in an epic landslide.

(3,649 posts)What Trump is doing isn't typical of political campaigns. He's not running on issues, he's running on emotions. To make matters worse, he's starting from a place that is devoid of facts and reason, which makes it extremely difficult to counter him. Frankly, it's like arguing with a crazy person. Even if you have all of the evidence to back up your positions you'll never win the argument because the person you're arguing against isn't thinking on the same plane as you. Trying to go after Trump using facts is a losing strategy. Trying to out-Trump Trump is a losing strategy. All of the other Republican candidates tried both. Trump has successfully carved out a very large base of support, and I believe the only way to win an election against him is to rally the rest of the country that hasn't fallen for it.

(52,166 posts)where he is vulnerable. They can't call him racist or sexist or a greedy outsourcer because their party elevates those people. The way to beat Trump is to repeatedly point out that he is a racist, lying, greedy out sourcing sexist.
