Sanders also said his campaign would talk to the superdelegates in states where he had won "landslide victories" and tell them to, "Do what the people in your state want. They voted for Bernie Sanders, you as the superdelegates should follow their wishes."
The Vermont senator went on to say that he would also talk with the superdelegates who sided with Clinton before the primary votes were cast.
"We're going to make the case for the superdelegates, "Your job is to make sure that Trump is defeated, that Bernie Sanders, in fact, for a variety of reasons, not just polling, is the strongest candidate.'"
Todd told Sanders he was contradicting himself.
"You're saying you want them to respect the vote in their state, then at the same time, you say, 'But oh, by the way, for those of you that are a superdelegate in a state that Clinton won, why don't you think about the general election?' It's a little bit hypocritical to be on both sides of those issues," Todd said.
"No, no, no, that's not what I'm saying," Sanders responded, arguing that the superdelegates have a "grave responsibility" to make sure presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump doesn't become president.

(58,724 posts)Kind of deflecting away from the point.
I think Bernie and his supporters ought to come out strongly in favor of saying that whoever wins the most pledged delegates ought to be the nominee.
That seems the most consistent position in relation to how he feels about super delegates.

But I am surprised Chuck isn't bowing before Bernie since his wife is getting so much money from the Sanders campaign.

(744 posts)I'm glad Todd laid into him on that. It's the very height of hypocrisy. And not for anything, he'd still be losing even if the supers all went with the will of their states. Oh, and why does he never ask those supers in states he didn't win to go with the will of their states?

(68,593 posts)First, he said that the will of the voters needs to be respected and the delegates in states he won need to move to him...haha. When it was pointed out that asking supers to switch from states that Hillary won by appealing to them to make him the nominee even though he does not have more pledged delegates...he said oh no he meant the ones she had before the first primary...like they would switch...they are the hard- core loyalists and would have switched reluctantly to Bernie had he won the pledged delegates...but he didn't. And even if they did...it would not be enough. He looked defeated but defiant.
