2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEven if you don't support Bernie as a candidate, you should want the platform to include his ideas.
The best way to win this year is to recognize that we, as a party, have to embody a spirit of real change.
And that it is crucial to capture the wish for transformation that the Sanders campaign embodies.
This doesn't require doing anything that the vast majority of HRC supporters would have any reason to feel uncomfortable about. It simply means unifying the party in a spirit of equal partnership and hope for the future.
To bring us all together, let the negotiations begin soon...let the merging of ideas begin soon...Let the work of winning in the fall begin soon.
That work means making sure that no one is sent away from the convention having been vanquished. It means admitting that both sides in this primary fight need each other and that both are worthy of respect and inclusion in the future of this country and this party. The usual dynamic can't work this time and no one should insist on it. What matters is beating the right in the fall, not putting anyone in their place or settling any scores.
We can't win without each other, without embracing and welcoming all who have been part of this process since last summer. The path to victory is based on partnership.

(5,792 posts)Bernie or his supporters to have any negotiations to being soon. They don't want the merging of ideas. You really think that. Apples and Oranges.

(3,473 posts)Who would want to unite with people like them? Unity isn't a one way street and it's not just the Clinton Campaign appeasing the BS campaign with everything they want, just so we can be honored to get their precious votes.

(20,606 posts)I hope the DNC is smart enough to bring some of his economic ideas into the platform.

Military intervention can't be progressive in any remaining world situations(from now on, any war we get into, other than defense of our own territory, will only be a war to defend the profits of the wealthy).
We need a politics that unites the victims of hatred and oppression with the victims of greed(many of which are the same people).

(80,708 posts)I mean, that's mostly fine with me- a 3rd Obama term, as she has positioned herself as running for, isn't really such a terrible sounding idea from where I sit, however I realize some long-running issues will likely either get ignored or papered over.
But I do think people are in for some disappointment if they think she will usher in some sort of tectonic changes.

(2,472 posts)Because Sanders does have an opportunity to influence the platform.
The problem as I see it is many of Sanders proposals are just variations on the same theme Clinton has.

(56,582 posts)He's said he wants to embargo trade with any country that has a lower minimum wage than the US. I'd leave the party if that was ever on the platform.
I might be for or against his health care plan if he could get more specific: particularly I need to know if providers will be legally required to accept it and forbidden from accepting private payments.
"Breaking up the banks" is so vague and vacuous that I can't even say whether I'm for it or against it. There could be good and bad ways to do it but he presents it as an end in itself, which I certainly don't think the party should adopt.
