2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumYou brought it on yourself, Secretary Clinton
I have to chuckle when I see a Clinton post complaining of the damage Senator Sanders is doing to her by not abandoning his campaign weeks ago. And that they are worried that Sanders supporters may not support the Democratic nominee.
Here's a thought: Stop the nonstop ad-hominem attacks on Bernie supporters calling them crazy, violent, "BernieBros", "Bernistas", and having your surrogate say she "fears for her life." Give me a break.
If you stop slapping them in the face and debate the issues you might find they would support Clinton over Trump any day.
And to verify my suspicions, perhaps a poll might help...or set me straight for being so naïve.

(3,304 posts)...stop over-generalizations and find a better way to court the electorate than ad-hominem attacks on your opponent's supporters. And if you want to be petulant, it will make your job of begging for those peoples' votes exponentially tougher.
Your choice.

(6,918 posts)What is the ad-hominem attack? And if you deny the observational premise, I suggest you read the first few ad-hominem attack replies from Clinton supporters.
And mind you, I am not rabid either way. You can read my posts. And even though somewhat neutral, I have been targeted by Clinton supporters for being identified as a "BernieBro" or some similar straw man.
And I also get pleas from Clinton supporters---who I will likely support over Trump if nominated---to vote for Clinton. So attacking me, a likely supporter, is stupid. And it all comes from the arrogance of Clinton supporters assuming they can unload on someone because he deserves it for being a stereotype "Bernista".
It's sad.

(25,816 posts)But there have been no arrests that I've heard of. Shouldn't it be very easy to review the cell phone numbers
and find the callers? Making death threats is a serious matter. I'm sure the police take it seriously.
Can you tell me who has been arrested?
TheFarS1de
(1,017 posts)...that they made shit up ? I mean I am sure with that level of vitriol the Police are all over it .

(25,816 posts)Barbara Boxer fearing for her life was made up. The rules were made up.
It just seems to me that every call would have a record of the phone number.
Shouldn't the police be able to look at the phone of the people who got these death threats
and find them easily? Like I said above, death threats are serious, and those making them should be prosecuted.
I don't believe there have been any arrests.
I do not ascribe hyperbole and exaggerations as Sanders supporters. I do not even ascribe the reported death threats to the Sanders campaign, and any "rogues" out there who make threats should be reported to authorities (I assume these volumes of alleged death threats have been reported and investigated by law enforcement). Then, if suspicious, the person should be immediately arrested.
Taking offense and becoming self-righteous for our prejudicial behavior ignores the plea for votes. What campaign can afford to attack another candidates primary supporters? The idea is to get votes, not prove how you have a case of the vapors from something read. And if someone has threatened our life, OR WE KNOW OF SUCH A THREAT, it should be reported to law enforcement.

(6,918 posts)There are good reasons to concede by Sanders and there are equally good reasons to carry on.
I think the most important reason to carry on is that it would be bad form to quit on the younger supporters who have come into the political process for the first time. To abandon those people's vision to do no less than remake the entire money-for-hire political process risks them NOT staying around to support Clinton, should she be the nominee.
They are there for a change, not for a political party's inflexibility.
bvf
(6,604 posts)but I cannot think of any reason whatsoever for Sanders to concede. None at all.
If Clinton in fact becomes the nominee and by some miracle manages to beat Trump, the young can watch that vision of getting money out of politics go up in smoke. Citizens United has been very, very good to her, and I don't buy her bullshit about doing anything about it for a second. Nor do I think it will be long before the next military quagmire. Wall Street would do a jig at the prospect.

(34,845 posts)Without a doubt -imo- the most vindictive, bitter and nonsensical posts have come from the Sanders supporters. They are, and have always been, Sanders' worst enemy.
To use your own parlance: you brought it on yourselves.

(6,918 posts)Perhaps you may not know it, but if Secretary Clinton is the nominee she will, and already is, need to court Sanders supporters.
And perhaps you have not seen articles that the Clinton campaign is concerned Sanders supporters will not vote for her in the General Election.
So if she is concerned about Sanders supporters, call off the dogs on them.
I will vote for Clinton, regardless, but beating up on YOUR OWN LIKELY SUPPORTERS is how elections are lost.
I hope this has been of some help.

(1,473 posts)"If you stop slapping them in the face and debate the issues you might find they would support Clinton over Trump any day. "
because we do debate the issues, and then get called all kinds of names for dong it. Then multiple pouty OPs like this one try and depict Berners as nice peaceful posters just calmly posting facts over and over.
What a load!
"And that they are worried that Sanders supporters may not support the Democratic nominee."
Not me
But the Berners so wish it were all of us. They sure want an ego strokin' and it wouldn't change a thing they'd still vote against their own interests just to be spiteful. It is who they are. I couldn't care less what Berners do. Thousands will get try to get themselves arrested in Philly trying to make a point because they are too naive to realize they are making themselves look like fools. but just thousands. The reasonable Sanders supporters will vote for Hillary.
Numerous posts on DU from BoBs say "we need to be enticed " like this is sex or food or something! ) and the reason they won't vote for her is "shes a war hawk." that is followed by HC supporters who then point out Bernie has voted for more wars than she has.. all are justified with baloney by BoBers ....his votes were for the"good wars" , apparently.

(6,918 posts)...is that you use an ad-hominem attack saying the post is "more dishonesty from the Sanders camp".
Nice try, not Sanders camp, and your ad-hominem attack on someone you don't know proves my point. Such tactics do not earn votes.
And you know what? Politics is about kissing asses of the public. It's called being humble. If a politician is too arrogant to do it they should find another profession other than public service.

(22,037 posts)Senator Sanders has run a remarkable campaign and I know many people I respect who supported his efforts. The name calling and attitude is tiresome but it's election season so, what can you do?
Here's what I'm going to do: vote a straight Democratic ticket and try to get rid of the Republicans. They're the enemy.

(58,785 posts)What happened to what you guys stand for, and what on earth do we have to do with its apparent disappearance? Did it ever exist or was following Bernie just a chance to parade anonymously and throw verbal eggs at cyber opponents?
Our, as in liberal Democrats', main goal is, as it always has been, electing as many Democrats as possible so we can rev up undoing the destruction the GOP has done to our nation.
You guys need a purpose too. Hopefully pursuing the same progressive goals you started with by voting your beliefs in November.
In any case, your unhappiness at losing the primary is not our creation or our fault. It's all yours. Focus on something that matters instead of quarreling with a bunch of people you'll never meet and who'll all disappear from your cyberspace awareness at various points without notice.

(3,014 posts)Random and puffy_socks. I haven't really had too much of a problem with Clinton. I mean I have been here since 2004. I support the dem candidates every cycle.
However...I really don't like being talked down to, called names, ridiculed.
And damn straight...you insult me non stop for months...and THEN tell me I don't matter and you don't want my support....
I just say okay. Your berating wish is my command.

(1,473 posts)That's really something Bernirbros should have thought about over a year ago.
I was nice for the entire year answering with only facts and links to sites that , before this election, were fine with Berners. That is until they didn't say what they wished to hear.
Hillary supporters have been relentlessly bashed regardless of politeness of their posts and Bernie supporters then have the gall to pretend there are no Berniebros and no harassing and no violence (yeah that guy was just picked up the chair because he was looking for his gum, right?) and not one of them sent nasty emails to SDs .
Lies , all lies... and every single Berner knows it.
I didn't start giving it back to Berners until April 2016 after I was told I was too old and afraid to fight because we kept asking them to stop being so rude and condescending...and if I couldn't take the heat I should go.
I know many other HC supporters were always polite still are because they refuse to get in the mud with Berners. I'm not as polite as they are You owe them some thanks... I don't care though. I'm civil enough.
So the Berners can stop playing the pity card, they took it to far.
They now reap what they've sewed.
They are receiving their well deserved kharma.
getting their just desserts,
getting their comeuppance,
getting their return from "the golden rule" ....
whatever you wish to call it.
Tough!
welcome to the reality that not everyone is going to put up with their crap .
