We didn't watch Game Change last night - but a few thoughts re the topic (McCain/Palin) vs today.

I will keep this really brief - there is simply no excuse for the choosing of Palin to be VP for McCain (I would also say that there is no excuse for McCain even getting near the presidency - he is that unhinged).

Yet.....I look at the four GOP hopeless...er, hopefuls - and I can't say that there is any excuse for such a field of untalented, inappropriate, completely incapable people even considering getting near the presidency. From insane to unhinged to impossibly narcissistic to dangerously fanatical to...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (yes, you know who that one is).....not even a PTA president in that bunch, never mind suitability for elected office.

And that is the crime of the recent GOP - just utterly wrong for our country. period.

And if I read the true mood of the GOP, a lot of them feel the same way.

3. The scariest thing to me is not that they chose someone completely unqualified to run as VP

That was very bad, of course. But, it's that they primarily chose her because they thought she would be popular. And they were right. She was.

The real indictment of this film is of the American people (or at least a significant portion of them). Those who supported Palin and voted for her either didn't care whether she was qualified or not, or, even scarier, they were too dumb or uninformed to be able to tell. The real monster of the horror movie that is Game Change is the Republican electorate. And we now see more confirmation of this monster today in the four potential candidates being supported for 2012.

6. Yeah, but they don't even have that with the four that remain standing...

they didn't even have that with the ones that started out in Iowa. Not a single one in the bunch would be suitable to invite over to a barbecue, the closest they had was Huntsman, but he really doesn't seem like the type to hang out with IMO. So what they have is a bunch of stupid, mean, unlikable people running for the nomination on their side. I can't figure out which brand of poison is the worst from what remains.

When you think about it, it is instructive to look at two central points made by Palin in her "knock 'em dead" acceptance speech: her reference to a "community organizer," a dog whistle for "black," and "pit bull," a comparison she drew between herself and a vicious animal that is known for attacking weaker animals and people (such as kids). Both are key strains in the Republican psyche.

Racist and vicious pretty much sums it up.
