Mitt Romney: A Trump Presidency Would Spawn Trickle-Down Racism
So the GOPs last nominee will not be voting for its next one.
Mitt Romney delivered some searing criticism of Donald Trumps presidential campaign on Friday, hitting the presumptive Republican nominee for his own attacks on Latinos, Muslims and women.
I simply cant put my name down as someone who voted for principles that suggest racism or xenophobia, misogyny, bigotry, [for someone] whos been vulgar time and time again, Romney, one of the GOPs most vocal Trump critics, told CNNs Wolf Blitzer. I dont want to be associated with that in any way, shape or form.

He did NOT write a concession speech. He believed Karl Rove that Ohio would bring it home for him!
He's a complete and total clueless tool....

(11,175 posts)The old line about Richard Nixon's perceived untrustworthiness was, "Would you buy a used car from this man?" Well, let me update it. From whom would you rather buy a refurbished laptop -- Mitt Romney or Donald Trump? I'd say Romney, hands down.
Romney's attitude wasn't "Let's be racist but keep it hidden." His attitude was "I'm sure I'm not a racist, I'm just advocating policies that I sincerely believe are best, uninfluenced by race." His flaw was self-deception. He really didn't see the racism in himself, in his whole party, until Trump brought it out into the open. He's shocked, shocked, except that unlike Peter Lorre he really is shocked.
But the big headline here isn't competing views of Romney's character. It's that he exemplifies large numbers of conventional Republicans who won't vote for Trump. In a race between two candidate with high unfavorable, we'll need lots of people like that. Romney's public statement may help embolden a lot of other Republicans to follow his lead. Even if few vote for Clinton, whom they hate, it's a big gain if they just leave the top line blank, and an even bigger gain if they stay home altogether.

If Trump helps the Libertarians break 5%, they'll be in an even better position to take votes away from whomever the Republicans nominate in 2020.
