Alex BrandonAP Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaks during a Planned Parenthood Action Fund membership event in Washington on June 10, 2016.
In her first speech since she became the first female major party presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton put several traditionally sidelined womens issues front and center.
Speaking to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Friday, Clinton made clear that issues that affect women and families would be central to the messaging of her general election campaign against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.
For too long, issues like these have been dismissed by many as womens issues as though that somehow makes them less worthy, secondary, she said. Well, yes, these are womens issues. Theyre also family issues. Theyre economic issues. Theyre justice issues. Theyre fundamental to our country and our future.
She also made clear that she will contrast that message with Trumps record of comments about women................................
Hillary still working and talking about important issue. So proud of her.

Clinton Keeps Pressure on Trump at Planned Parenthood Gathering

Clinton: We Wont Let Trump Turn Back the Clock
Hillary Clinton continued outlining her case against Donald Trump on Friday, charging he has no idea whats best for women during a speech to a key progressive group.
Do we want to put our health, our lives, our futures in Donald Trumps hands? the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee asked a Washington gathering of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. These questions are not hypothetical.
Clintons address was a sharply symbolic choice for her first public appearance since Tuesdays victory speech after clinching the nomination: a predominantly female crowd, waving bubblegum-pink signs bearing her name, defending a womens health group thats under constant threat from Republicans.
Running against Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, this election isnt just about the usual partisan contrasts, its about who we are as a nation, she said.
QuickTake Gender Gap
Drawing on a rhetorical tool she effectively used a week ago during her San Diego foreign policy speech, Clinton sought to use Trumps own words against him. In March, he said there has to be some form of punishment for women who have abortions, a statement that Clinton challenged at the time and that drew hisses from the Planned Parenthood crowd as Clinton recalled it.
Anyone who would so casually agree to the idea of punishing women like it was nothing to him, the most obvious thing in the world, thats someone who doesnt hold women in high regard because if he did he would trust women to make the right decisions, she said.
Clinton also assailed Trump's comments on paid family leave and pay equity for women. He says if women want equal pay, they should just, and this is a quote, do as good a job as men, Clinton said. As if we werent already.
While Clinton saved her harshest words for Trump, other Republicans werent spared. If right-wing politicians actually cared about protecting womens health, theyd join me in calling for more federal funding for Planned Parenthood, she said.

(11,605 posts)6. I finally got to watch her victory speech Tuesday night
And I was pleasantly surprised that she focused so much on the history of women's rights and embraced her role as the first female nominee. After watching that speech and reading this one, I am starting to get a little bit excited to vote for her in November.
