A General Election Campaign Is Serious Business

We have lots of work to do, and very little time to waste, it seems to me.

Playing word games with names and poking at people's harmless foibles seems like wasting time to me. I don't know, but I think we would do better by focusing on real issues and real solutions.

Let's get our Democratic Candidates elected, OK?

My opinion, of course. My suggestion, too.

It's important business but that does not mean it has to be 'serious' rather than humorous. Bluenorthwest Jun 2016 #11

There's a place for humor and satire, but there's also a need for organization and support for our candidates. I'm in a serious mood about this election, and I don't plan to apologize for that or "lighten up" much until after the November election.

We have a real opportunity in 2016 to make a difference. I suggest we take full advantage of it by focusing our time and energy on every election for every office.

That'd be great!

in every campaign and every local Democratic organization. It's easy to get involved. Just Google and call. People are needed. The more the better.

"Candidate"?

I assume you mean Hillary, and I agree (although I caucused for Bernie).

But may I kindly suggest augmenting your most welcome suggestion to its plural form, e.g., CANDIDATES

Let's go Dems! Many stripes, big tent, let's win!

I'm in complete agreement with you. We need to elect Democratic candidates to every level of government and I'm working for a couple of local candidates; one will easily win, the other is questionable but we'll fight the good fight.

An ancillary thought occurred to me when I read your headline. There's nothing more serious in US politics than running for president. Yet the Republicans have a presumptive nominee who is anything but serious. Donald Trump is the most unprepared, unqualified and unacceptable candidate in the history of our country, and that's saying a lot if you know anything of US history. He's undisciplined, unorganized and unfunded and he doesn't seem to care. Unbelievable.

But back to your OP, your opinion and suggestion, as well as your excellent posts, are most welcome.

Apparently Trump has them in despair, so they're cutting their losses.

GOTV Dems.

Hard to think of a more useful 2008 Democratic voter than Tina Fey nor a more effective political barb than 'I can see Russia from my house!'.
Serious? Not even a little. Effective? You betcha!

And also, by the way, some of us have been very actively opposing Trump for decades. Those who refused to listen, those who instead called him The Donald and went golfing with him, have no room to lecture us on how to go about our business. Had you folks in the 'Moderate Center' paid heed to minority persons and others to your left Trump never would have had a shot at national politics.

So you will have to live with the fact that Trump is going to be mocked and mocked very well. Humor is part of why Democrats win.
