In an interview with KSDK-TV, Mitt Romney said he would eliminate any federal funding of Planned Parenthood in an effort to reduce the national debt.
Said Romney: "Planned Parenthood, we're going to get rid of that."

(6,996 posts)Romney's shoot from the lip problem continues. If he did say, "No more Federal funding" no problem. But saying he will get rid of it is bizarre.
First of all there's no way he could do that to a private company and I'm sure they will be able to survive without the funding.

(12,310 posts)of it comment was about getting rid of government funding for planned parenthood.
Even so, its still a stupid thing to say.

(94,585 posts)i.e. a wolf whistle to the conservative faithful. But I don't think they're going to make it into as much of a "villain"

(3,166 posts)Somewhere along the way, Romney made a hard right turn...He is completely unrecgonizable from the person/candiate he was in the mid 1990's..

(31,706 posts)...it's a fascinating place where you are void of any real convictions other than self gratification. Millard's flip flops on so many issues makes this statement loaded with all sorts of blowback. Millard's out on his island where no matter how wingnutty he gets the great unhinged will never consider him one of their own and the moment he walks back something like this he appears weaker and phonier than he previously appeared. On the other side of the island, Millard's attempts to be a wingnut has alienated every moderate group left of Atilla the Hun...and when he walks this one back it will be too little too late. He loses either way.
This dude is on Pavlovian response these days...his pandering has hit warp speed...

(171,066 posts)imagine having no convictions whatsoever, but he doesn't. Reminds me so much of McCain... Now why would we want a prez like that?

(24,347 posts)Cutting off its federal funding, however, would effectively choke the life out of it--so indirectly I suppose he could make good on his threat.

(8,660 posts)he sounded like he thought planned parenthood was a government agency, which, of course, it is not. he's gonna get clobbered in the war of words that is a presidential campaign if he has to go up against president obama.
