2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOK, what real LEVERAGE does Sanders have right now?
- His supporters have flocked to Clinton (8% holdout) faster than Clinton's did to Obama (40% holdout) in 08 when Obama won.
- He's raised little funds for down ballot dems to make a difference
- No delegates are going to move to him
- Warren "trumps" his left bonafides seeing she was the person the left was pining for in the beginning.
What hand does he have to deal relative to weeks ago?
He goes 3rd party? Too late for that on a national level or even swing states IINM
Other than throwing his platform a couple of bones what has he got that's real leverage?
I'm thinking not a damn thAng
Your take?

(2,353 posts)As you know he has stated repeatedly he cannot force his supporters to support Clinton with the snap of a finger.
But what he has done thus far has lead to: "His supporters have flocked to Clinton (8% holdout) faster than Clinton's did to Obama (40% holdout) in 08 when Obama won. "
Of course you are gonna claim that it was not by his doing, but I will have to agree to disagree with you there. If he came out an endorsed it would have look inauthentic and one of Bernie's biggest draws is his integrity and authenticity. So it would have backfired in my eyes.

(90,339 posts).. tRump and we're not talking about his placing the onus on the winner to get his supporters to move over.
She's already done that, she has less hold outs than Obama in 08... WITHOUT SANDERS HELP
It would NOT look inauthentic to say she won and I'm with her... that's not even close to reality IMHO

(2,353 posts)...what would look authentic or inauthentic to his supporters. As one of his supporters I can tell you a quick endorsement would have looked inauthentic and tarnished his integrity in my eyes. He should endorse based on the outcome of his fight for progressive ideals in the party platform. Although even if he loses I expect at least some form of endorsement; He did endorse Bill Clinton with a sarcastic tone.

I know him not doing everything he can to defeat tRump is MORE inauthentic right now than Sanders NOT being a team player and a graceful loss

(135,425 posts)It's not anger or hatred, either--that framing is just not valid...it's puzzlement.
What's the point?
I can't see it, either, and I know I am not alone.

(135,425 posts)I don't think he wants to end his career on a low note. I think he's maybe having a tough time coming down to earth from all the high-flying hype and attention.
It happens. Time has a way of healing these pains.

(15,429 posts)so he has precisely NO leverage any more.

(146,308 posts)The polls are telling the only story anyone cares about. Those and Trumps pathetic campaign funding, which is almost none at all.
If Trump stays in, he'll be the nominee, and major GOP supporters are going to write this election off and donate only token amounts.
Trump is truly hosed.

(1,128 posts)It matters because the sooner the Democratic Party presents a united front the more it can use this to gain max vote in November, it's not only about electing a dem President but to get the Senate to flip and reduce the republican majority in the house to as little as possible. Sanders needs to be out there actively campaigning for Clinton and the democrats.
