I am an individual Democratic voter.

I am responsible only for my own statements, positions, and vote. I don't speak for anyone else, since I am not a representative for anyone but myself. I'm not a movement, a bloc, or anything but an individual Democrat.

I am very careful not to use the word "we" when discussing my opinions. I say "I" because I can speak only for myself. Whenever I see another individual stating opinions that use the word "we" in them, I wonder for what group that person is the head or the appointed spokesperson.

I often join with others at party conventions or in other groups to vote on support for individual candidates, resolutions, and platform planks. Sometimes I agree with those votes and sometimes not. If I refer to the decisions of that group, I say that the convention or group decided by democratic vote on a position, whether I agreed with it or not.

Unless someone is an official spokesperson for a group, any statement that person makes is an individual opinion, rather than the position of any group. Using "we" simply is not appropriate, unless in reference to and with attribution to a group decision. Everything else is an "I" statement.

I support Hillary Clinton for election as our next President. I cannot speak for Clinton supporters or for Hillary Clinton, though. I can only speak for myself as an individual voter.

That's my opinion. Thanks for reading it.

I too am a little tired of the word "we." It means nothing unless you speak for millions which no one does.

None of us are a group. None of us are "the Democrats," "the Clinton supporters," the "Sanders supporters," "the American people" or any other group. We may agree with some group or another, but we remain nothing more than individuals, and should never use the word "we" when stating our own positions.

I often disagree with those opinions, though. However, if someone expresses an opinion and uses the word "we" to indicate that they represent others, I will ask who "we" might be.

"We" is the echo-chamber stuff we were warned about by our dearly departing DU'ers.

The one thing "we" have in common?

Diversity of opinion on virtually every subject!

Right again, MM!

I've never met a single individual who shared all of my opinions. Ever. I disagree with everyone on one thing or another. That is why I post almost exclusively in DU's main forums, rather than in groups.
