Cory Booker no longer denying he's being vetted as Hillary Clinton's VP pick
As speculation over Hillary Clinton's running mate intensifies, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker this weekend went from flatly denying he's under consideration to referring questions about vetting to the Clinton campaign.
"I'm just referring questions about the vice presidency to the woman who is going to have to make this decision," he said on CNN Sunday. "You should talk to the Clinton campaign. What I do know is that on the Democratic side, there are many fabulous candidates--people that could be really strong vice presidential candidates."
CNN's Brianna Keilar tried to get him to elaborate, saying: "That is not a no, sir. That is not a no."
"That is exactly what it is," Booker responded. "It's telling you if you have a question like that, please direct it to the Clinton campaign."
Booker's Sunday answer was a shift from mid-June, when he said definitively in an interview that he was not being vetted.

(31,700 posts)Booker's major substantive difference with many progressives is on education policy. He is -- like President Obama -- an advocate of the "education reform" movement; he has backed New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's expansion of charter schools and merit pay for teachers, as well as a form of vouchers for some impoverished areas. He sits on the board of Democrats for Education Reform. During last summer's Democratic convention, Booker spoke at an event hosted by lightning-rod former D.C. schools chancellor Michelle Rhee, who teachers unions see as working to privatize public education and undermine collective bargaining. The school-reform issue is the subject of a major schism in today's Democratic Party; Obama's "Race to the Top" education initiative, which has encouraged state-level reforms, has infuriated traditional Democratic allies but also drawn support from many party officeholders.

So, I do not think you can draw a conclusion concerning Booker's answer. May be he is on the short list. That would make sense. But my guess is that he is not alone.
Personally, I do not really care who she chooses (preferably not Kaine), but I do not think it will make a difference. Hillary Clinton is largely competent to be president and she is not going to choose a Palinesque vice-president.

(20,191 posts)So if she chooses Warren, the GOP will choose a Repubb as a temporary replacement for 6 months but hopefully the voters would choose a Dem.
But they don't have a speial election in NJ or Ohio. The givermors just chooses a replacement.

(6,716 posts)He's not quite "prime time" yet. He definitely doesn't want Donald going after his personal life either. Too much there. We here in New Jersey don't care, but others like dirt.

This is New Jersey, a state which hasn't carried Republican at the presidential level since 1988, just as is the case with the likes of California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and the rest of "Blue Firewall" states.
If this opens an opportunity
