FBI Director James Comey to Give Press Conference on Unspecified Subject 11:00 This Morning

Tommy Christopher ‏@tommyxtopher 34m34 minutes ago
God, please let someone accidentally publish their "Hillary Clinton Indicted" pre-write! Pretty please?

Mediaite:

Just three days after completing a highly-publicized 3.5 hour interview with the former Secretary of State, the FBI is prepared to give a press conference this morning. FBI Director James Comey is scheduled to give the remarks at 11 a.m., which are on an unspecific topic.

Last week, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced that she was prepared to receive the recommendation from the FBI about the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server and the handling of classified information.

Political Twitter immediately wagered their best bets about the press conference and what we might expect to hear when Comey takes to the microphone. Many are pointing to the fact that Clinton is scheduled to make her first campaign stop later today alongside President Barack Obama as a likely indicator about how Comey’s remarks may be colored:

FBI’s Comey speaks to the press at 11 am. Obama/Clinton do their first joint campaign rally at 2:25 pm.
— Olivier Knox (@OKnox) July 5, 2016

Anyone think that Obama would be there if Comey was going to say anything upsetting? https://t.co/EMoyvLOE3y
— Logan Dobson (@LoganDobson) July 5, 2016

Headed soon to @FBI where Director James Comey plans to make a public statement at 11am EST. No topic provided in advance.
— Carrie Johnson (@johnson_carrie) July 5, 2016

Just remember that Comey is a Republican who nearly resigned over warrantless wiretaps. There’s no fix.
— Justin Miller (@justinjm1) July 5, 2016

The word is FBI Director James Comey will hold surprise presser at 11 a.m. ET. Focus is unknown, but FBI interviewed Clinton this weekend.
— Jason Howerton (@jason_howerton) July 5, 2016

FBI Director Comey speaks to the press 11a ET. Obama/HRC campaign together 2:30p ET. Pretty much says it all.

He is framing this in the worst light possible. And he's going to make public information that normally would stay within the investigation and be between them and the prosecutor.

Bad week. First the GOP thankfully washes its hands of the Benghazi "scandal," and how the Director of the FBI says "No reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case."

No willful or intentional misconduct, no indications of disloyalty to the United States, no efforts to obstruct justice.

I except the FBI’s recommendation and I'm not secretly steaming. I'm actually happy it's over before the convention.

But to circle back to your point. If you think I was wrong on anything I've said on this subject feel free to prove it.

...sloppy handling, but nothing criminal.

Only bad in the eyes of those who've invested so much in this. All that's left is the same sniping over 'carelessness' which most people have already shrugged off as political posturing.

No indictment fairy. I suspect that'll disappoint a lot of folks, many of them still hanging on to the imaginary Sanders campaign in anticipation of an indictment. Too bad, too sad for them.

...the speculation du jour throughout the primary from her campaign rivals was that she would be indicted and forced to end her campaign. That has to be a major part of why Sanders is still refusing to endorse her; hoping she'll get charged with something and he'll just roll his votes over into a superdelegate-fueled nomination.

Thart's not just idle rhetoric, it's drawn from endless posts here promoting the investigation at every turn and using it as a political cudgel against Hillary. I think those folks look utterly ridiculous and disgustingly craven; even more so today.

But, don't try and pretend not to understand the import in this election of the crushing of the indictment fairy. I don't believe you're that obtuse.

28. Sanders didn't mean to give her a pass when he said that
Tue Jul 5, 2016, 12:22 PM
Jul 2016

...he meant to fuel frustration over the issue and cast himself as above all of it.

Most of the folks who took time to post about this issue did so because they thought it would advantage their candidate; Sanders folks looking to damage Hillary politically, and Hillary folks looking to defend her.

Very few people posting on this intensely political forum were just interested in the technical details out of deep concern for the State Dept's adherence to regulations. This was used as a political cudgel here and today's FBI presser was a huge repudiation of those efforts.
