2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRs Thought Hillary Indictment Would Save Them In November
That's why their heads started exploding on Tuesday when Hillary was cleared by the FBI.
They know that they are hurtling toward a disaster with Trump. They couldn't stop him in the primaries, the Dump Trump movement is going to fail, and Trump will bring down the entire party, handing the Legislative, Executive and Judicial keys to the Ds for at least a decade or two.
Like the desperate gambler who puts it all on red, the Rs convinced themselves that they would win and win big the moment Hillary was indicted. They had an ally at the FBI, the leaks from that agency sounded promising, and the RW echo chamber reinforced their hatred for Hillary and their belief that she was a criminal who had finally met her Waterloo. They had nothing left but their hatred to give them any hope for November.
But Comey blew them out of the water. And even though he threw them an unethical bone by editorializing on his personal feelings about Hillary, their rage was such that they dragged him before Congress to vent their anger, a move that backfired on them spectacularly at today's kangaroo court.
As a D supporting Hillary, it's hard to imagine how this could have gone better for us!

(1,156 posts)Chaffetz, Issa, Gowdy, and Ryan are colossal blockheads and demonstrating a total lack of leadership. All they got is fear, lies and allegations to work with while Human Cheeto bloviates on and on about Crooked Hillary. Too bad there is not a place to publicly shame them because of a media which thrives on innuendo and tabloid b.s.

(58,785 posts)Honest, clear-eyed villains are outnumbered many times over by righteous ones. We see here how coming to believe their own propaganda, or whatever schemes and justifications are going on, can overrule all common sense.
That blue ideology line soaring, soaring where conservatives have never gone before represents today's House, courtesy of wings supplied by ultrawealthy ultraconservatives, of course.

(110,159 posts)illusion to make it thru their days. Or Fox news has been creating it. (I hadn't thought about Fox). But, with Clinton in 90's they started creating a bubbled world and by McCain they totally believed it. I thought polls manipulated in 2008 or presented to give them the feel of a win. I know they did in 2012. But, I never believed the numbers we were being fed. I was always comfortable with Obama's position in the race.
They so created the illusion in 2012 they were shocked Romney lost.
Now they have graduated all the way to a Trump and these people are so messed up. I can see themselves convincing themselves Clinton would be indicted. All the while, following it every step of the way, every piece of fact, evidence, information told us Clinton did not do something wrong, and ya, I go that far.
They had a crappy system and Clinton used a better system. And evidently, way more secure.
I have barely paid attention this last year because each time it is clear there is no breaking story.
And people believed.
That is sad, isn't it? An indication how we lie to ourselves, refuse to educate ourselves. Interesting. Thanks.

(24,396 posts)believe that believing is enough. You truly believe the Rovian mantra that you can create new realities. You believe that your religious beliefs are just as valid as are facts, and you consider your beliefs to be of equal standing with facts.
Ergo the full-frontal assault on science and reality, where the religious right actually view facts as being mere opinions, or worse, falsehoods being peddled for political reasons. They live in an echo chamber that provides them with daily reinforcement from the media, the church, politicians and - in many cases - friends and family, who are all of the same mindset.
Any challenge to such fantasies being treated as non-factual elicits an expected response: they're being persecuted, and they want their country back.
