Trump 'unlikely' to pick Christie, according to sources

By Claude Brodesser-Akner | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

TRENTON — It is highly unlikely that Gov. Chris Christie will be Donald Trump's running mate, according to two sources who are advising the Trump campaign and who requested to remain anonymous.

Instead, the sources said that former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is "the likely pick" to be the tycoon's choice for vice president. The sources, who have been privy to some of the selection process, have insisted on anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for the campaign.

"The people who've been pushing the Christie narrative are Christie people," said one of the sources, who has heard Gingrich is the likely pick. However, "it's Trump — I doubt anyone really fully knows what he's going to do."

As the first among the 2016 field to endorse Trump last February, Christie quickly rose within the Trump inner circle, helping him with debate prep and soon after, being named the head of his transition planning team. But a gaggle of other candidates with more federal experience than Christie have been interviewed by Trump, who's said he wants a "somewhat political" VP "who can help pass legislation."

But Rump has soooo much more in common with the Newt, I think he's the chosen one. What a pathetic ticket!

6. Two reasons why not Christie:

1. When Christie was federal prosecutor in NJ, he prosecuted and imprisoned Ivanka Trump's father-in-law, Charles Kushner. Like Hell Christie will even get a compensatory cabinet position.

2. Look for a curveball. It won't be Newt. It will be Rudy Giuliani.

You think the GOP will nominate two people from New York city to be their standard bearers in the Presidential race? Some in the GOP are already upset about Trump bringing "New York city values" to the campaign. "America's Mayor" is considered to be very liberal by the Republicans, another reason he won't get the nod from Trump

Trump doesn't think conventionally. If he thinks it's a good idea, nobody can change his mind. Trump would see Rudy beyond regional as he's "America's Mayor", which fits in with Trump's war against terrorism. ("9-11! 9-11! 9-11!&quot

Rudy can be as much as syncophant as Chris Christie, perhaps moreso. He will follow Trump's lead as it may well lead Giuliani into the White House without a single primary vote.

"America's Mayor" is considered to be very liberal by the Republicans, another reason he won't get the nod from Trump.
Rudy will be concentrating on terror, security, taking constitutional rights from protesting to wiretapping to loss of due process. He won't have time to be whimsical about a woman's right to choose. Besides, see #2.

Giuliani will not be Trump's running mate, for all the reasons I wrote.

In doing so he has done the impossible. He has united Democrats and Republicans in a unique and mutual loathing of their governor. He is also now, I would imagine, anethema to tax averse Republicans. Despite Christie's crawling and begging it most likely wasn't going to happen anyway. Now it won't.

Anyway, Christie seemed to be aiming at AJ.
