Related: About this forumElizabeth Warren Is Conspicuously Missing From DNC Speaker List
http://crooksandliars.com/2016/07/elizabeth-warren-conspicuously-missing-dncWell, this is interesting. You may recall that last week Senator Elizabeth Warren's name was leaked as keynote speaker for Monday night at the Democratic National Convention. Today, the campaign released a preliminary speaker list, and Warren's name is conspicuously missing from it.
Monday:
First Lady Michelle Obama, Senator Bernie Sanders and DREAMer Astrid Silva
Gavel time expected at 3:00 p.m.
It appears Senator Bernie Sanders has taken the keynote slot the leak suggested would be Warren's.
snip
Now, to be fair, Senators Tim Kaine and Sherrod Brown are not on the list either. But it still seems weird to me that Warren's name would have been specifically leaked as a keynote speaker last week, and isn't there this week.
You think she could possibly be on Hill's shortlist still? She's not scheduled on any of the other nights either.

(45,806 posts)She even made particular note of it saying "I guess that means she's not the VP pick." Maybe things have changes since then???
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)But it seems VERY odd that she would be scheduled (I saw that Maddow show too) and then be taken of the list. And if she was just to be rescheduled, why release a speakers list that was not finalized?

(22 posts)Andrea Mitchell and Co. Are reporting she had a private hour long meeting today with HRC. It's on Twitter with some of the MSNBC reporters but I can't find any link.

(6,537 posts)It just seems very strange that a Democratic Progressive like Warren, especially after the work she's done with Trump, would be taken off the speakers list unless there was a very, very important reason for it. If she isn't speaking at all, I for one would be pissed. Many other progressives would be as well since it was announced she would be speaking.

(58,785 posts)was reached with Sanders that included a prime speaker's spot and Warren graciously stepped aside to help close the deal.
Warren as VP choice is my favorite theory though.
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)But the original list leaked last week had both of them on it, on different nights.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)One other thing--Hillary was supposedly waiting to make her final pick until she knew who the pair they'd be facing off with were. Now she does... Does that suggest anything to you?
The NY Times has some articles about who Pence is. He really is the typical hard-core social conservative nightmare, and apparently not very smart. That last doesn't surprise me. Religious extremism usually seems to be inconsonant with sharp, wide-ranging minds, as if faith typically replaces cognitive effort. The pubs have pushed forward literally dozens who illustrate that. And, of course, when all answers are found in the Bible a contempt for conflicting secular "knowledge" is readily understandable.
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)Could be that Hillary thinks the Trumpence ticket is so bad she is now willing to risk an all women ticket with Warren in the second slot. The banks and the right wing despise Warren. She will tear Pence a new one, though, in a VP debate.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)was always 100% unacceptable, and I've thought a number of times about what a burden being the one above all who has to keep him from the White House must be for her.
Absolutely agree with the last. He wouldn't stand a chance against Warren.
I also like the contrast of Tom Perez's brand of civil rights activist virtue against Pence's white Christian zealotry, though I don't like anyone on the stump nearly as much as her.
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)But my heart is with Warren. I've heard Perez has a very good relationship with Hillary as well, she trusts him. I must say, though, that her relationship with Elizabeth seems to have blossomed a bit with this election. But, how could you not like Warren!
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)is that there could be potential clashes on issues that might come up. But my heart is with Warren too. Even more, I guess, my heart is with what a choice of her would say about Hillary's plans for economic reform. I want all we can possibly achieve, and I love that Wall Street is viewing them with alarm. Let it be for good reason!

(12,448 posts)The debates are going to be very interesting. Hillary will drag Trump's entrails out of him and fling them onto the stage. Warren and Pence? Ye GODS!
Expecting Rain
(811 posts)and how rattled Pence was when pressed on his beliefs on evolution. And that was nothing.
Elizabeth would eviscerate him.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)and she will win in a landslide. Most of her falling poll numbers in the past week were due to bernie people pulling back following the FBI announcement. She just has to pull them back in. Warren would do that and there would be little downside
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)And Warren will make it easier for Hillary to reel them in.

(13,616 posts)There are those who want to make sure the VP is just another white male named Tom or Tim so that they can feel nice and safe from those who would want real progress in the country.
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)but Pence is not just "another white male". He's a true believer; therefore, a RW fanatic.
DonCoquixote
(13,616 posts)there are those who do nto want warren to be considered for VP, and they have swarmed around Tim Kaine and Tom Vilsack, two BORING and RIGHT WING members of the party.
