Check in if MSNBC Has Totally Lost You As A Viewer

I used to watch pretty faithfully, but this election cycle has put me off that network.

I don't need to recite all the reasons why that is, because those reasons are obvious to anyone who has watched their convention coverage this week. What an embarassment they have become - an echo chamber of self-aggrandizing pundits peddling their opinions to dozens of viewers. I like to say they've become Fox News with a few minority and gay pundits thrown in to give them cover, and an appearance that they are different than the other cable networks.

I'm all for balance, but it's one thing to air different views, something else to overcompensate by looking for fault in every positive story coming out of a political event.

I'm done. It's C Span for me, CNN if I want to see fancy charts and graphics.

Keith and Rachel were my go to commentators for news and information. But they got rid of Keith, and I understand he was very difficult to work with, and I think he was going off the rails a little bit at the end. I don't know if it was his father's failing health and then dying or what, but he just was a little off.

Rachael,.....I don't know. I still have a lot of respect for her, but I just think she is following orders of her corporate masters. Keith wouldn't do it and he was let go. I think Rachael walks a fine line, but you know, we need a champion for the Left. Someone like she was at the beginning. Someone who calls out the RW hypocrisy and lies, who calls out the bad actors. But it's not going to happen. They let her do some special reports, like Flint Michigan and Gov Rick Synder's incompetence. And she did a big one on the environment. But they're not letting her get into the down and dirty. Maybe she doesn't want to. Maybe she's happy with the role she's playing. After all she's the biggest news draw of all NBC/MSNBC/CNBC line up. So maybe she's content. If so, we've lost our champion.

Last night's call out of Bill Clinton was strange. Frankly I was getting a little bored with the beginning, but maybe I'm just not used to good ole country story telling. But her remarks about it being sexist were out of left field. And she was visibly annoyed, to the point that Brian Williams threw a question at Lawrence O'Donnell just to get the camera off her. It was a moment.

When Sanders' staff went on TV and tried to pretend like they never tried to compete in the southern states, which Rachel Maddow had actually covered them doing on her show weeks prior, she appeared to sober up and dialed the bias back. That's why to some it appeared she started favoring Clinton; because before that she was favoring Bernie so strongly that even normal coverage of Clinton looked anomalous.

you were making it up was being a horse's rear end. RM was kissing up to Bernie until that point, as you posted. But after that she was protecting her journalism when his campaign tried to imply that he didn't try to compete in those states, which totally contradicted her reporting. It wasn't until after Bernie's campaign tried to sandbag her that she checked her bias. After Bernie responded to Trump's abortion fiasco with "now can we move on to something important" , she started to be more fair to Hillary.

To allow Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow to anchor the coverage should tell you all you need to know. A liar and a woman who is selling her principles to the highest bidder. I understand Tweety is too unpredictable to be allowed in prime time unchaperoned, but Lawrence O'Donnell is probably the most consistent talent on that network who thoroughly understands politics. Not mention the Emmy-winning Chris Hays. Joy Reid has also provided cogent, thoughtful, and accurate analysis.

I've had it with them. There was a brief and shining moment when it looked like they really would "Lean Forward." But I remember reading they had shit canned that philosophy and were turning to more conservative hosts and guests. To me it looks like conservative guests now outnumber liberal guests on the panels. Steve Schmidt? Nicole Wallace? Hugh fucking Hewitt? Boy, they weren't kidding!

Add to that - Rachael, Laurence, being well past their sell by date and knuckleheads like boy wonder Chris Hayes opining when he should be in the shallow end of the pool and you have a network that has one foot on the dock and one foot in the boat. We all know that can't last long.

After their dreadful coverage of this convention. I got really annoyed the other night after Hillary got nominated and they followed it up with three interviews of very unhappy Bernie supporters... Awful crap. I went onto MSNBC website to complain and couldn't find a way to do it. I guess they no longer really care what viewers (or former viewers in my case) think.

Rachel has been getting on my nerves for several months now. She often acts as if she knows more than anyone else and her opinion is gospel. Their search for disgruntled Bernie supporters is 'ridiculous' by usually finding the young and uninformed. But yesterday and her takedown of Bill was too much and I had to turn her off. I wonder how Melissa Harris Perry would have handled this convention.

I don't like my news pre-chued into liberal pablum prior to my consumption.

That editorial position can lead a network to cater to a section of it's viewing audience that they can't afford to lose in a manner that ticks off other viewers. From what I have read here on DU, it sounds like that is what is happening.

Know that many people watching the cable news shows are not also reading news online just as you do? And maybe many younger people are watching reality or other shows on tv rather than reading news online?

My point is that you shouldn't be taking a swipe at people based on demographics and you don't know what most people not watching these shows do.

I know more young people aren't watching TV because I pay attention to the data on media consumption patterns. Cable TV viewers tend to be old, this is a fact. DU members also tend to be old (every poll I've seen of "how old are you" on this site has a majority in the over-50 bracket). Stating an obvious fact isn't "taking a swipe at people".

I now watch CNN.

I am sure Bernie was a novelty, and talking about him was cool in the beginning. When the bosses realized if Bernie won, and got the money out of politics, as he said he would, and began gaining ground on HRC he had to be stopped. At any cost.

The cost was my viewership.

Hello CNN and your straight faced lying "conservative" commentators. Conservatives who push an economic system where most of us are victims to a handful of powerful elites. Guests and pundits who spout open unchallenged lies about everything from Reagan to healthcare. Not like you do a body count of the victims in the states like Texas where the governor refused to expand Medicaid and thousands upon thousands died needlessly.

We (us viewers who like to watch tv) are so screwed by the corporate media it makes me sick.

I mute TweetyBird now whenever he comes on, & it's a bit better.

& basically don't watch if they don't have a good panel -- & am really shocked that they go so far for youth w/o any real background in politics, & especially history.

I found the commentary about conventions, e.g, as notable for showing how none of them had any knowledge of anything that hasn't happened in the last 8 years (at most). They showed no understanding of past campaigns that speak to the issues

& little things -- like, when Cruz dissed NYCity, I never heard ANYONE mention Al Smith's election & how anti-city/anti-immigrant that GOP was; or Wm Jennings Bryan, "the cities will die" in 1896

MSNBC is overheated rhetoric, talking about a lot of stuff that no one cares much about.

I understand by reading DU it is not going any better, and as in addition, they have not been able to get with an Android app that works, there is no chance I will come back any time soon.

I am avoiding CNN as well as much as I can, because I am tired to see panels with Trump surrogates that can spew their lies without anchor people intervening.
