But Republicans held on to control of the House, holding 237 seats vs. 197 for the Democrats, plus-minus four seats.
The previous makeup was 242 Rep, 193 Dem after the last election. By yesterday, 5 of those seats had been vacated for various reasons, and the 430 members were 240 Rep, 190 Dem.
