GOP crushed in Senate, 8 to 25.

I notice that nobody in our great and impartial news media is focusing on the largest victory this election season: the retention of every single Democratic seat save one and the pickup of three (thank you, g.t.) seats in the most difficult Senate election season I can recall.

This should have been the Republicans' year to win. Democrats were defending 23 seats to the Republicans' 10, the result of the anti-Bush sweep of the Senate in 2006. Not only did the Republicans not gain ground with the help of a favorable season, a favorable lineup, and unlimited cash from fabulously wealthy and corrupt donors, they still lost two seats of their own. One of them, Maine, is one they're never going to get back.

In the past two years, not one Republican-authored bill has passed in the Senate. All that batshit-crazy stuff that was pooped out of the House? None of it got past the Senate. The hard-line anti-Republican positions of these Democratic Senators are ratified and confirmed by the people. Those Senators will be there, waiting, when Jeb Bush tries to get close enough to steal it four years from now.

This is largely thanks to President Obama, who secured his own reelection well enough and early enough to lend his time and support to the Democratic Senate races. If you think the President left a little polish on the hood by not picking up Indiana and North Carolina, remind yourself that he devoted his time to ensuring that the Republicans won't control the Senate for perhaps the next decade... or longer... instead.

Forgive my mistake above, please. It wasn't as simple as I described.

It was as simple as geek tragedy described, which is actually much more simple!

though that's highly unlikely, given how much $$$ (by Maine standards) the repukes spent to demonize him.

Nothing that will compare to the Committee and/or Subcommittee Chairs he'll get to choose from if he sides with us.

She will benefit from Senator Inoye's tutelage and will be in a position to be a powerful shaper of Pacific politics for a long time to come.

I do not wish to speak ill of Senator Akaka, as others here have, but Hirono is almost sure to bring more activity to the position.

We thumped the Rethugs in Washoe & Clark by ~100,000 votes, but we couldn't overcome Heller (R) jumping on Obama's coattails.

That was one of the big let-downs of the night. Yeah, we clobbered them and I feel like we let America down.
