"Allen West trails in Florida but won't concede defeat

(Reuters) - Tea Party-backed Republican Representative Allen West refused on Wednesday to concede defeat and demanded a partial recount in his re-election bid in Florida, where he trailed Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy.

(507 posts)If he wants to show what a poor loser he is, it's a fitting end to his congressional career.

(26,290 posts)But you can't fault him for wanting a recount, if it is really close.
That being said, I doubt someone with his screwed up psyche would ever be able to admit defeat. The recall could give Murphy an even bigger lead, but West will probably still contest it. Because he's crazy.

(4,613 posts)By FL law an automatic recount kicks in if the vote tallies are close, within a certain percentage. The results are apparently just outside of that percentage.

(332 posts)some of the uncounted votes are from strong DEM areas. Im glad he is gone, although he doesn't represent my area of Florida, I still consider him a disgrace to my state.

(666 posts)If a mandatory recount is required then so be it. Otherwise, the people have spoken so get out!!
I hope the recount finds more votes for Murphy.
Go home Mr. West Go home and I don't mean Washington.

(9,145 posts)Late last night, Congressman West maintained a district-wide lead of nearly 2,000 votes until the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections `recounted thousands of early ballots," Edson said. "Following that `recount, Congressman West trailed by 2,400 votes.
In addition, there were numerous other disturbing irregularities reported at polls across St. Lucie County, including the doors to polling places being locked when the polls closed in direct violation of Florida law, thereby preventing the public from witnessing the procedures used to tabulate results.
The St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections office clearly ignored proper rules and procedures, and the scene at the supervisor's office last night could only be described as complete chaos. Given the hostility and demonstrated incompetence of the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections, we believe it is critical that a full hand recount of the ballots take place in St. Lucie County.
It's so through the looking glass of 2000.
