2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumConsider: would today's conservatives support any woman for president?
Thinking about this puts into perspective just how daunting it is for a woman to become President of the US -- let alone a woman who is a Democrat. It also made me appreciate how tough Hillary Clinton is to take on this campaign.
It is hard for other countries to elect a woman who is not a conservative. Consider women leaders in today's world -Theresa May and Angela Merkel, both conservatives under European standards. And consider the woman leader the GOP holds in high esteem - UK's Margaret Thatcher - also a conservative. Would a woman in the UK's Labor Party have a shot as PM?
Is there even a female conservative today that would have a shot at the GOP support for President? Is Nikki Haley conservative enough for them? What about even Condi Rice? I think the GOP would be satisfied only with someone who is truly fringe conservative - like Joni Ernst. And even then.
Thinking about this made me realize that the conservatives are gunning to defeat Hillary because she is a woman almost as much or equally as much as because she is a Democrat. I appreciate her strength and toughness in taking on this fight - knowing that she has a softer side, sure - but you need a spine of steel to take all that is thrown at you.

(7,113 posts)That's Trumps answer to every question regarding naming a woman to any position.
Apart from that, they would probably have to refer to Mitt's "binder of women."

(58,785 posts)are for the most part okay with a woman president, strong socio-religious conservatives of course least open, but they're a minority. As Pew pointed out, though, the results may have been skewed negatively because the woman running during the poll was Hillary Clinton (a much-scarred survivor of 30 years of swiftboating).
