Related: About this forumTrump’s run at blue Connecticut
PoliticoAnd yet, on Saturday, Trump is hosting a rally in Fairfield County, Conn., a county that Mitt Romney lost to Barack Obama by 11 percentage points, in a state that hasnt voted Republican since 1988.
Its a move that is flummoxing and infuriating Republicans who believe Trump should be spending time and resources in winnable states, not in a place that few consider to be competitive.
At this point, Florida looks in trouble, North Carolina looks in trouble, they dont even know who their people are in Ohio, said Charlie Harper, a prominent conservative writer who runs a think tank in Georgia, where Trump is sliding in the polls. He can go have lunch in Connecticut and be home for supper, but the map is changing rapidly in the opposite direction. Hillary Clinton is not going to move in to defend Connecticut just because Trump went there.

Its unlikely shell need to, given the strong Democratic bent of the state, which has a Democratic governor, an entirely Democratic congressional delegation and voted for Obama by 18 percentage points in 2012. Former GOP Rep. Chris Shays of Connecticut has also recently endorsed her over Trump."
wow, sounds like a real squeaker is possible.

(395 posts)Seriously, I am now thinking he is doing it for the money. He is using is own planes, driver/pilots, hotels, and other personal resources for these campaign events. Don't quote me, but I think it is legal for the campaign to reimburse him for these expenses on the campaign trail. If (big if) this is true, I wonder what rates is he charging his campaign. He obviously not spending it on advertisements, offices, or forming a ground game. My speculation is he is pocketing his donations somehow.

(68,632 posts)It is a very wealthy place. I lived in Ridgefield... at least I went to high school there. We move a great deal. It used to have more than a few Bircher types, but there were liberals there too who made fun of the birchers.

(24,242 posts)affluent suburb, easy commute but great weather.
I lived in Norwalk CT, New Rochelle NY, NYC, Fairfield CT, relatives all over Westchester and Fairfield Counties.
Got em in Greenwich to Ridgefield to New Haven.
I lived in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport as a newlywed for a couple years
After 37 years in NY/CT I have now been here for 15 and never regretted a moment of it.
Spent the first 7 in a small apt on Venice Beach and the last 8 in a nice little house in the San Fernando valley with a pool etc.
It gets a little hot in summer but that's why I'm here.
I'm not going to die of a heart attack shoveling snow, that's for sure.

(2 posts)By now, I am sure that the Don is well aware of the recent news that he is now polling well behind Hillary in ALL of the battleground states, including PA where Clinton has a 10 percent lead.
As if that weren't bad enough for Trump, several recent polls also show him losing ground in several typical red states, like Georgia, which hasn't voted Democratic in years.
Yet his plan is to spend money in strong blue states to try to gain their support. Just how incompetent is his campaign? This is about as stupid as trying to get Hawaii to vote Republican - a truly fruitless endeavor.
Of course, he'll blame the American people when he inevitably loses. Pathetic.
