Trump Supporters Are Immoral People

How does anyone support such a person for president? At what point are you forced to admit that a candidate having an R next to his name is not an excuse to vote for the vilest of human beings?

What is it with these people? They consider themselves über Americans, the salt of the Earth, the proverbial "real" Christians. Yet they will blindly support a man who drags through the muck all that one would consider to be hallmarks of being a "good American."

How sad is it that not even having a campaign manager on the Putin payroll will be enough to chase off these morally bereft followers? In the past, any one of Trump's myriad glaring faults would have been enough to draw snickers of contempt from the "holier and more patriotic than thou" crowd. With Trump, they simply ignore whatever he says or does and act like he's their savior.

How does one even begin to communicate with people who are so deeply divorced from reality?

how t-rump followers seem to live in their own little bubbles with no input from the real world allowed inside their bubbles.

....among them here in Alabama. The problem is twofold.

First politics here has devolved into a football mentality. You pick a team and support them no matter what. Your team can do no wrong and the other team can do no right. Just like in football the fans of the rival team are all horrible people who lie, cheat, etc. It's a childish ignorant way to go through life but sadly that is an accurate description of most of them.

And second, we now live in a time when you can choose to live in a information bubble insulated against any challenge to your beliefs or team loyalty as it were. Don't want to see a negative story about republicans? Watch only Fox news. Don't want to hear a negative word about a republican? Listen to only right wing radio. Don't want to read a negative story about a republican? Only read right wing blog sites. And then of course they reinforce one another by circulating the propaganda bullshit to one another via e-mail or Facebook. Want to know how they can overlook so much negative stuff about Trump? Because they won't see most of it due to the news sources they follow and will dismiss any of it they do see as liberal propaganda. Then they will will go circle jerk either other on Facebook to assure themselves of being right about the quote, unquote, liberal propaganda, that slipped through their information bubble.

As long as a republican presidential candidate adheres to a few standard rules they could care less about the person themselves. Just be anti abortion. Support their right to own any weapon they want up to and including a bazooka or a 20 millimeter light anti tank gun. At least pretend to be a Christian. Blame everything on black people and Mexicans. Promise to cut taxes even if your only real intention is to cut them for the mega rich. And nothing else matters.

Stick to those simple rules and the republican party could nominate Charles Manson without losing their vote. Within 2 hours they would be on Facebook trying to rebuild his reputation and trashing Sharon Tate.

As long as the candidate is white and not too bright. After all, who wants one of "those people" who is well educated and highly intelligent? Stick with their own, white, not too bright, greedy and self serving. Perfect! Since $arah PayMe did not run this time, tRump will have to do, I guess.

I listen to my coworkers and realize that for many of them, there is nothing Trump can do to lose their vote. They just ignore anything that doesn't fit their narrative.

I do love some college football but you are correct about the football mentality around here when it comes to politics.

Let's see...our state is deep under republican control where nothing gets done, our speaker of the house is going to prison, our 90 year old governor was caught with his pants down boinking his 40 year old political advisor, our chief Justice of the Supreme Court is about to be removed from office (again) for ignoring the law, and our idiotic legislature won't even consider taking millions from the federal government to expand Medicaid while many Alabamians are dying because they hate Obama.

And we will continue to put these morons in office

Go team GOP.

4. Liberals and conservatives literally see morality

different ways. And both left and right have their more "passionate" factions who eagerly adopt any lie that makes them feel they are the good ones and the others are bad.

Yes, the right's seems to be larger and definitely more dominant, but there are a lot of good conservatives who aren't divorced from reality, try to live good lives, and don't hate everyone who's different. Some are even reluctant Trump voters because their moral views cause them to believe keeping control of SCOTUS out of the hands of the left is vital to the future of this nation. It's a moral issue for them.

I have a few friends who may vote for him. They are pro-choice and not opposed to marriage rights but are all are up with the trickle down economics. Convinced Hillary will cause a depression by raising taxes on the rich.

7. How? He appeals to the Right Wing Authoritarian Follower personality type:

See the research by Robert Altemeyer.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/3/1/190887/-

RWA is defined as the convergence of three attitudinal clusters:

Authoritarian submission: A high degree of submission to the authorities who are perceived to be established and legitimate in the society in which one lives.
Authoritarian aggression: A general aggressiveness, directed against various persons, that is perceived to be sanctioned by established authorities.
Conventionalism: A high degree of adherence to the social conventions that are perceived to be endorsed by society and its established authorities.

Table 1: Hostility & Fear Toward Outgroups

RWA's are more likely to:

Weaken constitutional guarantees of liberty, such as the Bill of Rights.
Punish severely `common' criminals in a role-playing situation.
Admit they get personal pleasure from punishing such people.
But go easy on authorities who commit crimes and people who attack minorities.
Be prejudiced against many racial, ethnic, nationalistic, and linguistic minorities.
Be hostile toward homosexuals.
Support `gay-bashing.'
Be hostile toward feminists.
Volunteer to help the government persecute almost anyone.
Be mean-spirited toward those who have made mistakes and suffered.
Be fearful of a dangerous world.

Table 2: Not-So-Healthy Ingroup Cohesion

RWA's are more likely to:

Strongly believe in group cohesiveness and `loyalty.'
Insist on traditional sex roles.
Use religion to erase guilt over their acts and to maintain their self-righteousness.
Be `fundamentalists' and the most prejudiced members of whatever religion they belong to.
Accept unfair and illegal abuses of power by government authorities.
Trust leaders (such as Richard Nixon) who are untrustworthy.

Table 3: Faulty reasoning

RWA's are more likely to:

Make many incorrect inferences from evidence.
Hold contradictory ideas leading them to `speak out of both sides of their mouths.'
Uncritically accept that many problems are `our most serious problem.'
Uncritically accept insufficient evidence that supports their beliefs.
Uncritically trust people who tell them what they want to hear.
Use many double standards in their thinking and judgements.

Table 4: Profound Character Flaws

RWA's are more likely to:

Be dogmatic.
Be zealots.
Be hypocrites.
Be bullies when they have power over others.
Help cause and inflame intergroup conflict.
Seek dominance over others by being competitive and destructive in situations requiring cooperation.

Table 5: Blindness To Own Failings

RWA's are more likely to:

Believe they have no personal failings.
Avoid learning about their personal failings.
Be highly self-righteous.
Use religion to erase guilt over their acts and to maintain their self-righteousness.

Table 6: RWA's Political Tendencies

RWA's are more likely to:

Weaken constitutional guarantees of liberty, such as the Bill of Rights.
Accept unfair and illegal abuses of power by government authorities.
Trust leaders (such as Richard Nixon) who are untrustworthy.
Sometimes join left-wing movements, where their hostility distinguishes them.
But much more typically endorse right-wing political parties.
Be conservative/Reform party (Canada) or Republican Party (United States) lawmakers who
have a conservative economic philosophy;
believe in social dominance;
are ethnocentric;
are highly nationalistic;
oppose abortion;
support capital punishment;
oppose gun-control legislation;
say they value freedom but actually want to undermine the Bill of Rights;
do not value equality very highly and oppose measures to increase it;
are not likely to rise in the Democratic party, but do so among Republicans.

Their news comes entirely from Fox News, conservative talk radio, and right wing websites. They've been conditioned to not trust any other news source. Since they aren't getting their news from any legit source, they are among the most misinformed people I've ever met. Brainwashed. That's the best word I can use to describe the Trump supporters that I personally know.

not too long ago that one of my older sisters in FL supports him, but she said she does so mainly for religious reasons. The thing that has me shaking my head, though, is why she thinks he of all people has any Christian credibility, unless she's one of the people who are hung up on contraceptive and LGBT issues.

for Rs. I'm sure they hear it from the pulpits, and they exist in a Xian echo chamber.

They really think of the Rs as being god's political party. One of my sisters used to make it a point to comment on my FB page that "both sides do it" whenever I'd post an article pointing out RW hypocrisy. She finally stopped when other friends began weighing in and challenging the logic of her beliefs and political leanings.
