His golf courses are catering to a dying breed. Young people don't like golf, nor do they like the GOP.

By any measure, participation in the game is way off, from a high of 30.6 million golfers in 2003 to 24.7 million in 2014, according to the National Golf Foundation (NGF). The long-term trends are also troubling, with the number of golfers ages 18 to 34 showing a 30 percent decline over the last 20 years."

Been in a restructuring mode after the incredible growth due to the "Tiger Boom". It was like the housing market just before the bubble burst. There was no way it was sustainable. Regardless of what the NGF stats show, young people love golf. National programs for kids around the country are flourishing. The decline is with the millennials. Millennials flocked to courses and found out some truths about golf, for better or for worse. It's a hard game, it takes a long time, and it's expensive. That is the perfect storm for a huge decline. A lot of the young adults who have recently turned away are busy entering the job market and paying off student loans. Once they get a career going and hopeful pay off their debt they will start knocking the ball around again. Junior participation is very strong. I cannot tell you how many meetings I've sat in where the topic is making golf attractive to millennials.
The key to golf is a growing middle class. That is the main problem. BTW, I would step on a Trump golf property even if you paid me to play. I was very proud of the PGA Tour when they loved an event fromTrump Doral to of all place Mexico. Cheeriness furious.

I have worked multiple weddings at the Trump National DC and a staffer told me they had several per week in the prime season. We also sent crews to the Trump Winery in Virginia for similar events. Nothing for me in 2015 or 16, but I know others who have worked there. Staffers told me that Don was not running these businesses, so perhaps that's why they aren't bankrupt.

The golf courses operate much like country clubs. Restaurant, grill, bar, event spaces and so forth.

Guess I was thinking of the maintenance of the grounds plus how expensive golfing is / has become . Closest golf course to me
was bought out , the restaurant is still open but the grounds are being let go on purpose so they will go back to nature setting . Walking trails will be made later .

If I want to get angry at a little ball, I don't need to buy a lot of equipment and pay a fee.

Your local golf course sounds like it is heading the right way. Instead of an outing place for well off people, it will become an area for everyone. No fertilizer in runoff and no wasteful irrigation. A winner!
