Weak Trump Steamrolled By Mexican President In Bizarre Press Conference
Donald Trump fell flat on his face in what can only be described as a bizarre press conference that highlighted his weakness and failure as a presidential candidate.
As Mexican President Pena Nieto spoke glowingly about the virtues of NAFTA and free trade, Trump stood there silently relying on a translator. As Pena Nieto criticized Trumps plan to build the wall in a very diplomatic fashion, Trump stood there. As Mexicos president stressed cooperation between the US and Mexico, Trump stood there.
When Trump finally spoke, he called the meeting a substantive exchange of ideas, and said that he was straightforward in repeating his views on immigration and trade. Trump proclaimed that he loved the United States, and then said that both countries are united by love for their countries. Trump later added that he a tremendous feeling for Mexican-Americans because he employs so many of them.
Trump later repeated that he was proud to say how many Mexican-Americans he employs. The Republican nominee discussed the common interest in keeping the border safe and free.
Trump went on to list five shared goals that would benefit both countries, ending illegal immigration, which he said must be solved quickly because it isnt fair. Trump said that he recognized both Mexico and the USs right to build a physical border. Trumps third point was the dismantling of drug cartels. His fourth point was that NAFTA must be improved. Trumps last point was that manufacturing wealth must be kept in our hemisphere, which directly contradicted the fact that he is campaigning on bringing manufacturing jobs back from Mexico to the United States.
The press conference was a voyage into the bizarre with Trump reading off of prepared remarks, but ad-libbing. Trumps remarks were very weak. He claimed that he was with the Mexican president for a long time, but admitted that they met for an hour.
Trump said they didnt discuss who would pay for the wall during the meeting, but that, like everything else involving the Trump campaign would be discussed at a later date.
Donald Trump tried to step onto the world stage, and in the process, he blew the image that he is campaigning on to pieces. The press conference was a classic Trump crash and burn. Trump looked like a wimp, as the press conference was another low moment for his sinking campaign.

I didn't hear one mention of the Mexican President saying he told Drumpf that they would not pay for the wall, while Drumpf said it wasn't discussed. I didn't hear any mention of the lethargic Drumpf in Mexico and loving Mexicans then coming back to US and Mexicans are once again rapists and criminals. MSM is so in the tank to creating a horse race, it's truly disgusting. all the important news gets minimized and Clintons' ginned up horrors get promoted non-stop. Absolutely he hit a home run with this. Im so excited. If he becomes buddy/buddy with the Mexican President, the Mexican President will encourage hispanics to vote for Trump.
1) It makes Trump look very Presidential.
2) It makes Hillary look like a slacker - Mex Pres said he made offer to both and Trump jumped right on it.
3) I look forward to a good relationship with Mexico - a win/win situation, less drugs coming over the border, they get guns from us they dont want - good for both.
4) We can all be prosperous in the future, both countries can.
Good job Trump!!!!

I just watched on TV, this was excellent.
Trump didnt look like a politician, he looked like a statesman. Some bozo on Fox now dissing Trump, calling it a massive capitulation. Trump said long ago he has to be flexible, he just proved it. Trump said NAFTA has to be updated, true. Either rip it up or update it, one way or the other it has to be fixed. He is making moves already to do that, and hes not even elected yet.
Great list of points he wants to work on, he also got together with a foreign leader who he is known to heave serious disagreements with and had what both called a productive meeting, discussed the wall and didnt discuss who pays for it. That was a good move. I didnt see any animosity, both seemed fairly cooperative, it looks like Trump just made a good start on a positive relationship with Mexico. He even got the Mexican president to agree a wall might be a worthwhile idea. He at east acknowledged that both physical and technological deterrents are needed.
He also Trumped Hillary, put together a meeting immediately, got the jump on her, stole her thunder, no matter what she does now, she gets the same optics as Obama, leading from behind.
As far as I can tell, this was a big positive for Trump.
Dear Washington,
America is coming,

Trump didn't need to talk about Mexico paying for the wall, because THAT can be achieved 100% WITHOUT Mexico's involvement. When Trump enacts a rule whereby remittance payments to Mexico are TAXED TO PAY FOR THE WALL, there's not a damn thing Mexico can do about it. That's our jurisdiction, not theirs.
I guarantee Trump will mention HOW Mexico will pay for the wall in tonight's Arizona speech: Remittance payment tax!

Historic NY
(37,449 posts)and Mexico. The undocumented people crossing have steadily declined to it lowest rates over ten years. Effort to improve the border must be made for all.
PENA NIETO (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): With regards to border issues, I have a very clear vision. The border must transform itself in (ph) an asset for our region. We have great advances in the last few years, working very closely with the Obama administration. And with the next administration, we must accelerate these efforts so that the Mexican/United States border is more efficient and safe.
However, an important number of U.S. citizens chases (ph) the border as a real problem because undocumented persons and illegal drugs cross the border onto the U.S. Undocumented immigration immigration from the Mexico to the U.S. had it highest point ten years ago, and it has slowed down consistently, even to the point of being negative in a net effect at this point.
Even so, we know that it continues to be a shared challenge, including the increasing number of non-Mexicans that cross our country to go to the U.S. which create in fact a great humanitarian crisis. However, this is a clearly incomplete vision of the border wishes (ph) because it doesnt account for the illegal flows that come in south bound, including weapons and cash.
Every year thousands of dollars billions of dollars and weapons come in from the North, which strengthen the cartels and other criminal organizations that generate violence in Mexico, and obtain gains from the drug sales in the U.S. This flow must be stopped.
What we need is an integral (ph) focus regarding the border that serves the challenges of undocumented people and illegal drugs and weapon flows as cash all (ph) the same. Many lives may be saved in both sides of our borders if the criminal organizations stop receiving all the weapons and cash that today allow them to pursue their criminal endeavors.
Illegal weapons, drugs, and cash flows in both directions, have multiple negative consequences on both sides of the border. Our border must be seen as a joint opportunity. Both countries must invest more more infrastructure, more people, and more technology to make it more safer, and more efficient.
I do admit that the recognize that the natural right that every country has to protect its own borders. I also believe that a real collaboration effort between friends and allied is the best route to obtain this. All the while, I express this to Mr. Trump to make a better border with Mexico, and all the friends from Central America.

Of course, Gary Condit was a Democrat. Joe is a CON.
Look what they did to Bill Clinton, who stupidly dallied with another intern. But Newt Gingrich, Henry Hyde, Bob Livingston, and Dan Burton, ALL of whom did worse things than President Clinton did - all of them cheated on their wives, but also left behind untold messes and personal wreckage, strings of broken marriages, and out-of-wedlock babies born by their mistresses. Bill Clinton's fuck-up did NONE of those. The worst that only TWO of them lost was a job (Gingrich eventually had to resign as House Speaker) or a promotion (Livingston had to give up hopes of replacing him).

Mexican president disputes Trump over border wall payment discussion http://edition.cnn.com/2016/08/30/politics/donald-trump-enrique-pea-nieto-mexico/
"Who pays for the wall? We didn't discuss," Trump had said when asked by a reporter during a news conference following their meeting in Mexico City. "We did discuss the wall. We didn't discuss payment of the wall. That'll be for a later date."
But Peña Nieto later claimed the two had discussed the wall and who would pay for it -- and he had "made it clear" to Trump it wouldn't be Mexico.
"At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump, I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall," Peña Nieto tweeted, after their meeting Wednesday.
