Is it OK to say “The Negro”?

Sometimes I like to turn Fox News on for a few minutes, to test if my medication is working at keeping my blood pressure down.

I apologize for not knowing the name of the host on Fox’s “America’s Election HQ’ around 11:15 A.M. MTS, nor her male guest.
She asked him if Trump’s visit to an African-American church was a farce, or a sincere outreach to the African-American community.

What really caught my attention was that the guest used the term “The Negro ...” several times
as in:
The Negro needs to understand that the Republican Party is their friend.”

And I'm thinking:

"WOW !"

That usage is an indication of ignorance or even racism.

Objectification, through assigning all members of a group one name.

an entire race, the appropriate response is, "Which one? Do you know only one?"

It's the same as saying, "The Woman," when referring to women. It pretends expertise and superior knowledge of an entire class of people. It sucks!

Sorry, but it's a neutral term. It's antiquated, but it's not an obscenity. If we decide as a society to give the word "Negro" the old 1984 treatment... what are we going to say to the next generation about all that footage of Dr. King saying the word "Negro" over and over.

Words don't just have power... we have to give it to them.

the choice of the word "negro" aside, the sentence construction is tremendously insulting.

as if the republican party is doing nothing wrong and it's the stupid negro's fault for not recognizing it???

and finally, no, the republican party is no friend to women and minorities and anyone who can't afford huge campaign contributions.

it is a party built upon corruption and hate.

After it was unanimously passed with 380 votes, President Barack Obama signed H.R. 4238 on Friday, which amends two federal acts from the ’70s that define “minorities” with terms that are now insensitive or outdated.
The Department of Energy Act has for decades described “minorities” as, “a Negro, Puerto Rican, American Indian, Eskimo, Oriental, or Aleut or is a Spanish speaking individual of Spanish descent.”

The new bill changes the language to, “Asian American, Native Hawaiian, a Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Native American, or an Alaska Native.” There’s also similar language in the Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Act.
