Related: About this forumMedia turn on Lauer for not fact-checking Trump
One of the top stories at politico. Between this and them FINALLY asking about his bribe to the florida AG, maybe they realize that this guy probably isn't worth a few extra dollars in their bank account.
"The main thing is: I have great judgment, Trump said in response to a question as what he has done in his life that prepared him to send America's men and women into harm's way. "I heard Hillary Clinton say I was not against the war in Iraq. I was totally against the war in Iraq. You can look at Esquire magazine from 2004. You can look at before that. And I was against the war in Iraq, I said it's going to totally destabilize the Middle East, which it has. It's been a disastrous war. And perhaps almost as bad was the way Barack Obama got out. That was a disaster."
According to fact checks by several news organizations particularly BuzzFeed and others like PolitiFact Trump did, in fact, support the Iraq war in 2002. But Lauer, co-host of NBC's "Today" show, immediately moved on, asking Trump about his temperament.
"So Lauer didn't correct Trump on his record about Iraq? The Washington Posts Phil Rucker tweeted.
The New York Times Nicholas Kristof wrote that the forum was an embarrassment to journalism, while his colleague Paul Krugman wrote that everyone knew this would happen, but Lauer didnt have a follow-up planned for Trumps answer.

(3,072 posts)They let trump play t ball and celebrate when he hits a single but tear clinton apart when she gets a fast ball and only hits a double. Perhaps they will finally realize that they are holding her to a mile high standard when they applaud trump for not crapping himself on stage.

If the media wanted to they could totally destroy trump and his presidential aspirations in less then 48 hrs. But the media has a vested interest in keeping this a race.

(5,049 posts)Lauer is a TV celebrity who has been star struck by Trump since the day he announced he was running for President. The guy belongs on the set judging oatmeal raisin cookie recepies not interviewing Presidential candidates. It was amateur hour - for both Trump and Lauer.

(7,963 posts)Nor is he really liked for doing entertainment. I can only imagine why HE, of all people, was chosen for this forum and format...and it certainly not because he is tge most qualified. NBC has derailed.
