Related: About this forumMatt Lauer’s Pathetic Interview of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Is the Scariest Thing I’ve Seen
Source: Jonathan Chait, New York Mag
Chait then points out that Lauer spent 1/3 of the allotted time questioning Hillary about her private email server and that he "did not move the ball forward on the question in any meaningful way."
Both of these beliefs stun and appall foreign policy experts in both parties, as readers of the Washington Post or the New York Times know. But the average undecided voter isnt reading those newspapers. The average undecided voter is getting snippets of news from television personalities like Lauer, who are failing to convey the fact that the election pits a normal politician with normal political failings against an ignorant, bigoted, pathologically dishonest authoritarian.

That's it.
He doesn't really report any news because that isn't his job. His job is to generate faux controversies and faux outrage to boost ratings so more advertising profits can be eked out by Comcast and GE, who make BILLIONS in profits while using the airways for FREE.
So we can't really expect anything good from an interview conducted by most of these talking heads, because they are OWNED. Basically greedy old white liver-spotted male hands grasping for the uttermost farthing of profits have effectively ended our free press.

(4,835 posts)When you are stupid (as so many Trump supporters clearly are) there aren't 'degrees' or 'grades' of intelligent people.
In other words, if someone is a lot smarter than you are, you don't know which smart person is smarter. Because they are all smarter than you.
Everyone is talking over your head. It's a breath of fresh air when someone is using words that you are familiar with. The press is catering to these people, because these people are viewers.
It sucks, but I don't know how you turn it around.

Then he said he opposed our action in Libya and still only crickets from Lauer.
Chris Wallace has already said these lies are fine with him.
How the fuck do these people have jobs in news?

(101 posts)As a shift worker, I was sleeping and planned on watching it on youtube later. From what I hear from here, I guess I shouldn't bother. I've never liked Lauer. What a poor excuse for a journalist.

(5,942 posts)watching Trump's face go from orange to bright red every time he's even slightly uncomfortable is wonderful to behold. I kept thinking, Lordy, he'd explode if Matt questioned him like he did Hillary or even asked Trump a simple foreign policy trivia question he couldn't answer and actually pressed him on it. Plus, it's only 50 minutes out of your life. Trump's slow and swaggering entrance is also interesting to watch.
